BJR hoping to build on recent learnings in Tasmania

Brad Jones Racing heads to the Apple Isle with hopes of a resurgence of form after a challenging Repco Supercars Championship round in Perth.

The fourth event on the championship calendar offers a chance to ‘start again’ and  for the BJR cars to really find their groove in the Gen3 era over the weekend of May 18-21.

Several issues cropped up at Perth for the crew, mostly concerning tyre life, but there were glimpses of speed and overall the cars were quite racey.

The Albury-based squad has spent the past few weeks doing their homework to try and improve on that form before heading to a similar stop-start track in Tasmania.

The transporters are in the process of being loaded before heading to the Port of Melbourne for their voyage over the Bass Straight.

The team will also be celebrating a milestone for the driver of the #8 R&J Batteries Camaro.

This round will be Andre Heimgartner’s 100th in the Supercars Championship, having made his debut in 2014 at Bathurst.

Heimgartner has had ten podium appearances and a victory over his 8-year Supercars career.

The Tasmanian round this year will also have a condensed format with Supercars in action just on Saturday and Sunday.

BJR drivers, Jack Smith (#4 SCT Logistics), Macauley Jones (#96 Pizza Hut Racing), Bryce Fullwood (#14 Middy’s Electrical), and Heimgartner will be on track for the first practice session on Saturday May 20 at 9:00 AEST.

What our team has to say…

Brad Jones
Team owner, Brad Jones Racing

“Symmons Plains is a place we have performed well at over the years so I'm really looking forward to getting down there. There is enough degradation in the track surface that strategy will come into play. And I'm hoping that we get back on track, we've had a really strong start to the year however we did have a difficult time in Perth. I felt that by the time we got to race two (Race 8) we were starting to get the cars under control and then race three (Race 9) we didn't progress - so looking forward to starting again. It's going to be a two day format so there's not going to be a lot of time. Hopefully we'll have the cars on track and ready to compete for a top 10 position.”

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars Driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

“Tasmania is always a good round to go to, it's very simple. So it'll be interesting to go there and see if we can get a bit of speed back and get the momentum going in the right direction.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars Driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro

“Tasmania is actually a track I struggled a bit at last year. So yeah, I'm doing a lot of homework going into this weekend. I think we had pretty good speed there with Andre last year. So I think if I can do my job there, hopefully we can work it out. We need to work out what things correlate between AGP and Perth and then into Tassie and see what we can come up with and hopefully we get something a little bit faster for the race.”

Jack Smith
Supercars Driver, #14 SCT Logistics Camaro

“I'm looking forward to Tassie, it's one of my favorite rounds. I like going to Tassie and I don't mind the track there. I've been fast in the past so I hope that we can get on top of the car out of the gate.”

Macauley Jones
Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro

“Tassie’s quite a short track but it’s quite an interesting one with the hairpin, which offers a bit of overtaking. We’ve done a bit of work over the break between Perth and now to get some direction and hopefully we’ll be a bit quicker at Symmons Plains.”
