Top ten result for Heimgartner to end year for BJR

Supercars

The final race of the 2024 Supercars Championship saw Andre Heimgartner seal tenth in the Drivers’ standings.

However it was a dramatic day for the Brad Jones Racing team; Jaxon Evans hit the wall in qualifying early on Sunday.

It was a massive hit for the rookie at Turn 8 with both ends of the car sustaining serious damage.

The crew were quick to start repairs and were on track to have the SCT Motorsport Camaro race ready when it was confirmed that Evans was suffering from concussion symptoms.

The team elected not to run the #50 Camaro, meaning BJR was fielding three cars in Race 24.

Heimgartner took up grid spot 14th and was looking like he was on for a finish of seventh; his battle with Brodie Kostecki however didn’t go to plan and the Kiwi lost two spots on the final lap.

Seventh was enough to cement him in at 10th in the Drivers’ Championship.

While garage-mate Bryce Fullwood made a remarkable comeback.

Having qualified last the Middy’s Racing driver had to have something special up his sleeve and the early Safety Car played straight into their hands.

Fullwood was called to pitlane for a dash of fuel and quickly sent on his way, with that strategy the #14 driver was catapulted to 12th at the flag.

Macauley Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing Camaro struggled throughout the 78-lap race with understeer, which made life difficult.

With the Adelaide 500 wrapped up, the Brad Jones Racing team now has a full summer to prepare for the opening 2025 round at Sydney Motorsport Park on 21-23 February.

Super2

The Super2 Series is wrapped up for the year with both drivers feeling positive heading into the off-season.

Cody Gillis had good race pace but felt he was stuck in the pack throughout the race bringing his #9 Perry’s Fuel Distributors ZB Commodore home in 12th.

On the other side of the garage, team-mate Elliott Cleary had a promising start to his race but felt that he needed to qualify higher to be able to show his full potential.

The young star came home in 14th.

The 2025 Super2 Series commences at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 21-23.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
"Not a bad day, was looking for a strong finisher then just out there and got ran over a bit. Overall, not a bad way to end the year. The last five races have been all top ten, so solid end and finished tenth in the Championship. It's positive given the year we had, so looking forward to next year getting stuck into it and see if we can sort of improve and make our way forward from where we are now."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"Really good day here to finish up the season. Unfortunately, we didn't really get a good qualifying lap in due to the red flag. Really glad Jaxon's alright. The guys did a really good job fixing the car up, and they did a really good job with strategy in the race. The car was fast, and we made a heap of spots. So really positive way to finish off the year. I felt like our backs really been up the wall this weekend and these last few rounds so it was really nice to bounce back and hopefully we can go into next year with some good momentum."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"Today was okay. Sort of a shame obviously for Jaxon and the red flag that went out but was reasonably happy with the car when it was qualifying. The race just felt very pushy with a heavy tank, so the start of the stints were pretty difficult to manage and save the tyre for when the fuel load sort of came off. Had some good battles out there. Last one of the year, nice. nice to finish the season."

Elliott Cleary
Super2 driver, #19 Sync Music ZB Commodore
“Last race of the year done in Adelaide. Got a good start and had some really promising pace, just needed to qualify higher but still learnt a lot throughout the weekend. Thank you to the team, my sponsors and my family for making this year possible.”

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 Perry's Fuel Distributors ZB Commodore
“Tough day here at Adelaide for our last day. Ended up 12th. Had decent pace but was just stuck in the pack. Huge thank you to Perry’s Fuel Distributors for coming on board for the Adelaide round, Coca Cola and Allen’s for the continued support. Another huge thank you to the whole BJR crew for all the help this season.”
