Podium aspirations for BJR in Perth

Brad Jones Racing will be looking to recreate last year’s success when the team gets on track at the Perth SuperSprint this weekend (April 28-30).

The Wanneroo circuit was the scene of Andre Heimgartner’s (#8 R&J Batteries) first podium for BJR last year in Race 11, when he finished third.

The Kiwi driver is coming to the track in WA off the back of another podium at the Melbourne SuperSprint, coming across the line in second position.

While team-mate Bryce Fullwood (#14 Middy’s Electrical)  was on the cusp of a podium on multiple occasions in Melbourne, he looks forward to having that opportunity again in Perth.

The 24-year-old has a great working relationship with engineer Phil Keed and the pair have produced some incredible efforts in the last six races, with Fullwood charging through the field in multiple events.

Macauley Jones had an up and down outing in Melbourne after sustaining some damage, but ultimately came away with two top ten finishes.

Jones is positive ahead of the third round of the Championship, having shown some real progress in the Gen3 Camaro over the previous two rounds.

Jack Smith in the #4 Camaro is looking to build on what he’s achieved so far this year after performing strongly in Melbourne.

In Race 3 Smith was looking feisty and fighting near the top ten, before a small error caught him out.

The weekend features three races, one on the Saturday and two across Sunday, all 42 laps in length.

BJR will also be looking to consolidate its position in the Team’s Championship, with the garage featuring cars #14 and #8 sitting third in the points standings.

The other side of the garage sits in 12th, but only a handful of points separating it and those ahead.

Cars are on track at the Western Australian circuit for the third round of the Supercars Championship on Friday April 28 14:25 AWST/ 16:25 AEST for Practice.

What our team has to say…

Brad Jones
Team owner, Brad Jones racing

“I'm really looking forward to getting over to Wanneroo. It's the scene of our first ever championship round win and it's been a happy hunting ground for us over the years. Andre got a podium there last year, and I feel coming off the Grand Prix, we're certainly headed in the right direction. The Middy's car is strong as it's ever been. And certainly with SCT and Jack, I feel like we're coming off his strongest round. We also have something special planned with Pizza Hut which I can't wait to share. So lots to look forward to and I can't wait for the racing to start.”

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars Driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

“You just don't know what these new cars will be like at  whatever track you go to, it's always slightly different. Obviously two contrasting tracks [Albert Park and Newcastle], Perth sort of a bit more in the middle, but probably more like this style of track. So I think as we go to different surfaces, different temperatures, it's gonna vary quite a lot and we're just gonna have to learn as you go.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars Driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend, I think we can take a lot of confidence heading to Perth after Melbourne. I think Phil's getting his head around this car. I'm getting my head around how to drive it. And I think we're working better as a unit than we've ever worked before.”

Jack Smith
Supercars Driver, #14 SCT Logistics Camaro

“I just think our direction with the car has been a bit better so far, I think we can build off what we've been doing in the last round and take it into Perth. Hopefully we can carry that  same speed and just try and minimize mistakes better, because I think that's what costs us most in Melbourne.”

Macauley Jones
Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro

“Perth is going to be a new test for us, but after the last round we’re kind of in a good position. As a team we’re performing really well and that’s being shared between us. I feel like my car had quite a bit of speed in Melbourne and I’m pretty positive that we can take that into this round.”
