BJR scores two top tens in opening racing of Supercars season

Brad Jones Racing has had two cars finish in the top ten in the first race of the Supercars Championship for 2025.

Both Andre Heimgartner and Bryce Fullwood qualified inside the ten earlier in the day at Sydney Motorsport Park.

While the pair ran opposite strategies they were both able to keep themselves among the top ten.

Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Camaro ran late into the race before coming to pitlane on Lap 17 of 26 for four tyres.

The #8 entry left the lane in 12th and pulled himself up to 9th by the 21st lap.

With Fullwood, in the Middy’s Electrical Camaro didn’t battle his team-mate too hard and Heimgartner slipped through to 8th with four laps to go.

He then made his way around Anton De Pasqaule to claim 7th.

Fullwood had stopped on lap five and took two tyres on the right hand side, he unfortunately was boxed in in the pitlane and lost vital seconds.

It was a valiant drive to recover to 9th for the #14 crew.

Jaxon Evans in the SCT Motorsport Camaro gained ground in the race, however he ended up stuck behind traffic.

Evans finished in 16th.

Pizza Hut Racing’s Macauley Jones was also made up positions over the sprint format race, coming through to finish in 20th.

There are two more races this weekend, with Race 2 of the Championship getting underway at 19:30 AEDT tomorrow.

Super2

It was a progressive first day of the season for the Super2 boys today having two practice sessions to come to grips of the Sydney Motorsport Park track.

With Cody Gillis back for another season with BJR, he finished Practice 1 in 19th.
He looked at the data sheets and finished Practice 2 in 7th in his #9 Budget Petroleum ZB Commodore.

Newcomer Brad Vaughan is getting up to speed with his #80 Dormer HVAC ZB Commodore finishing Practice 1 in 17th.

Alongside his teammate, he also made an improvement during the second session finishing in 13th.

The duo are on track at 2pm tomorrow for Race 1 Qualifying.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

“A solid of the day for our team. Really happy coming out with seventh. The car wasn’t ideal in the race but had a good strategy and managed to claw it back so really happy with that. Looking forward to tomorrow. We’ll try and go again. The longer race is more about tyre deg which I think will be strong for us. We're learning every time we go out and really happy with the progress.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Brad Jones Racing Camaro

“Our first race done and dusted here. The weekend's been really good for us so far. We started off ninth which was really cool, and then we ended the race in ninth as well after some dramas in pitlane with other cars. I think car speed was really quite good and the potential was good. Pretty happy with the car. I don't think we have to make too many changes going into tomorrow so I'm excited to see what the day brings.”

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro

“A bit of a disappointing start to the day. Qualifying was pretty rough for us. I had a good start, did all things racing for quite some time. Pitted and I felt like we had a decent strategy, it just meant we had to fight forward. Had some good battles out there and burnt up some tyres and some fuel but mostly tyres. I’ve got some work to do. We've got a slightly new crew trying to figure it all out and keep chipping away at it.”

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

“Just finished race one of 2025. Got off to an average start. Struggled a fair bit in practice this morning with general car balance. Qualifying, I was probably on for a decent lap like I'm sure many other people were but found that there was an issue with the brakes. So halfway around my final flyer I was losing brake pressure which made it difficult to push on. So then ended up qualifying 18th. Starting the race from there, we're sort of unsure what to do on strategy but made the call to pit around lap nine or 10. The guys had the fastest pit stop in the lane, so it felt pretty special. I jumped a couple cars and ended up finishing 16th. All in all, not a bad day. I think if we can actually finish our qualifying lap we’ll be further forward tomorrow. Hopefully that's the case and we can race from there.”

Super2 Quotebaord

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 Budget Petroleum ZB Commodore

“Decent day today. Tyre life is a big factor around Eastern Creek. Sometimes you thought you were losing your way a little bit. We had a bit of a crack at the setup for the second session. And when we bolted the greens on, it was pretty good. A little bit to work on before quali tomorrow. There's definitely a little bit left on the table out there. It's good to be sort of, well pretty much home. I have family and friends coming out tomorrow. “

Brad Vaughan
Super2 driver, #80 Dormer HVAC

“Productive day. Cody and I sort of went different ways with the set-up and mine didn't work. His did. So re-evaluating, go strong tomorrow. Feeling comfortable after practice. And just building into it.”
