BJR backs up on Saturday in Sydney

Andre Heimgartner and Jaxon Evans have finished inside the top ten in Race 2 of the Supercars Championship.

While misfortune struck Bryce Fullwood early in the race, pulling him out of contention after a great qualifying that saw him start the race from 10th.

The Middy’s Electrical Camaro was the only car not to pit just after the Safety Car was called on lap 7.

Fullwood had elected to go around one more time rather than double-stack.

After making his stop under Safety Car conditions, he left pitlane while the red light was displayed at pit exit.

While the team argued against a penalty, Fullwood was given a pitlane drive through dropping him to the back of the field.

He eventually finished the race in 19th but had the pace to run inside the top ten.

Meanwhile SCT Motorsport’s Evans made good ground after a slow stop early in the race.

Evans was 13th as racing restarted and made his way up to 10th with ten laps to go.

The #12 driver was under immense pressure from James Courtney behind for the final 10 laps, but ultimately kept him at bay.

Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries car had made the Top Ten Shootout earlier in the day, and came out of the first pit stop cycle in 6th.

Once he had taken his second stop Heimgartner was running in 9th, an error for Ryan Wood than promoted him to 8th, where he would finish the race.

Macauley Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing Camaro started the race from 18th and gained some momentum after losing time double-stacking under the Safety Car.

The double-stack dropped Jones to 20th, however by the chequered flag he had made his way to 15th.

WIth one more race in Sydney tomorrow, there is a lot to play for for the BJR crew.

Racing gets underway at 16:05 tomorrow afternoon.

Super2

The Brad Jones Racing Super2 drivers have had a tough initiation in 2025.

With both Brad Vaughan and Cody Gillis looking for better car balance across qualifying and the race, it wasn't the way the team had hoped to start the year.

Vaughan had qualified the #80 Dormer HVAC Commodore ZB in 20th and finished the race in 22nd.

While Gillis was able to make some small steps forward in the race, starting out of 23rd and coming across the line in 19th.

The crew will do their homework to do overnight in preparation for Race 2 quali at 10:35am AEDT tomorrow.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

“Solid day today. We had really good potential in the qualifying but couldn't quite get the phasing right. Still a solid start. The start of the race the car was really fast, and then had a bit of an issue with the toe on the car moving throughout the race, and sort of stuffed us a little bit. Really happy, good steps for us as a team and another strong day out so looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully back it up again.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Brad Jones Racing Camaro

"Race two here in Sydney didn't quite go to plan. The car was really fast, just tucked in behind Andre there at the start. Just got a bit caught out with the thinking we could go around again. We have got to clarify what happened there. Long story short got a drive through but the car is really fast. It's got really good speed. I think we ended up 19th with the drive through. And we didn't get to start the race on the back of the train. So, yeah, pretty happy."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro

Qualifying definitely went better today. Can still maximize that a little better. The race got hectic at times. Lost a fair bit in the double stacking the pits, which wasn't ideal. But obviously the guys are trying to learn this new challenge of the fuel churns, which is always an interesting one. So hopefully we can fix that and be a bit more consistent there, which will be good. But the poor refueller holding a  ton of weight above their shoulder is not easy. I'm glad I'm not doing it. Not too unhappy with the race, I feel like we did a good job today.

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

“Good day. I knew that we had speed to be further up in qualifying yesterday and then, kind of put it together a bit better Saturday afternoon and qualified 12th for the race today, only missing out on the top ten by a couple hundredths. It’s pretty tight out there but was really happy. Had a strong race, kept our nose clean and came home 10th which is equal best result for me in the championship. A nice step forward from yesterday and hopefully we can continue to build on that tomorrow when we're racing in the sun.”

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 Budget Petroleum ZB Commodore

“Very very tough day here at Sydney Motorsport Park. Struggled in both quali and the race. We’ve got lots of work to do overnight and tomorrow before we get out on track for quali again, but we will take the positives and make something good happen tomorrow”

Brad Vaughan
Super2 driver, #80 Dormer HVAC

“Difficult day here today. We’re struggling with the top end speed. Need some big changes to be able to try and turn things around tomorrow. Can’t thank the team at BJR enough and Dormer HVAC Services for all of their support. It’s a new day tomorrow with qualifying and another race, so we’ll see what we can do.”
