BJR start Townsville 500 on a high

Brad Jones Racing enjoyed a positive practice day at the Townsville 500, with Bryce Fullwood second quickest in the latter session.

Fullwood, in the Middy’s Electrical Camaro, has taken confidence from the team’s testing before the Darwin round and believes the lessons from that day are paying dividends.

Garage-mate Andre Heimgartner recorded two fifths in the practice sessions, backing up on his strong form in the Northern Territory.

The R&J Batteries driver thinks there’s still more up the team’s sleeve and his side will make a few tweaks overnight.

SCT Motorsport’s driver Jack Smith started the day strong and felt that the car was something they could build on.

Unfortunately the team weren’t able to get to where they needed to be today but have the data to push forward tomorrow and get on the front foot in qualifying.

Macauley Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing car enjoyed a top ten result in the morning session, finishing ninth.

However the #96 Camaro wasn’t able to capitialise on that in the afternoon.

Off track, the Pizza Hut garage played host to an event of a different kind with BJR fans Rachel and Darryl tying the knot.

Brad Jones and son Macauley were witnesses to the nuptials and the team cheered as the couple shared their first kiss.

It was an honour for our crew to have the pair choose Brad and our garage to be wed in.

Qualifying for Supercars kicks off at 10:15am AEST.

Super2
Lochie Dalton in the AWC Commodore found direction in the second session of the day.

While the first practice session didn’t go to plan for the young gun, the crew made some changes between

The positive momentum will hopefully continue into qualifying tomorrow at 9:45am AEST.

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars Driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

“Solid day overall . The car isn't too bad right rolling out, I still think overnight we need to find a few little things to make it a bit more predictable and better and easier to drive. But overall pretty solid. Good to see ya a few of our cars up there.”

Bryce Fullwood

Supercars Driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro

“I think leading into Darwin, we had a test day before Darwin, I think that was really valuable for us. Obviously, we had a really strong showing in Darwin. And Andre and I are working really well together and both are engineers are too. So it's really harmonious, there at the moment and information flowing both ways. We're really helping each other, which is working really, really well. He's obviously really fast there too. And  the times are so close at the moment that we could do that session again and he could be where I am and I can be where he is, it's just so competitive.”

Jack Smith

Supercars Driver, #14 SCT Logistics Camaro

"Today started quite well. All cars had pretty good speed in practice one. I really felt like something we could work with. And yeah going into practice two, we ran two sets of greens and yeah, just really needed to build a bit faster than we did to get the time we wanted. We got a lot closer by the end, so tomorrow morning we know we need to do that."

Macauley Jones

Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro

“We had a decent result in the first session, finishing in the top ten. That’s a positive to take out of today. Obviously the afternoon practice wasn’t ideal. There’s more to get out of the car, we just need to get on top of it. We’ll look over everything tonight and come back tomorrow.”

Lochie Dalton
Super2 driver
"We had a challenging first session, just didn't quite have the car in the window. And then the second session was much better. We've made a few changes and they were pretty positive, I believe. And hopefully they can keep rolling on to qualifying for tomorrow."
