BJR seals third in Supercars Teams’ Championship in season finale
Andre Heimgartner’s top ten finish in Supercars final race of the 2023 season helped to seal third in the Teams’ Championship for Brad Jones Racing.
The quick Kiwi also locked in a career best 7th in the 2023 Drivers Championship after a feisty race on the streets of Adelaide.
Making his way through from the qualifying to the Top Ten Shootout, Heimgartner started Race 28 from 9th position.
The R&J Batteries driver was in the thick of the action throughout the race and was keeping Chaz Mostert at bay in the closing stanza.
With ten laps to go, Mostert charged through on Heimgartner, with the #8 Camaro crossing the line in 6th.
His garage-mate Bryce Fullwood’s drive, amid struggles with car balance was equally as crucial for the Teams’ Championship position.
Fullwood’s 2023 points haul netted him 11th in the Drivers Championship
Fullwood’s Middy’s Electrical Camaro has struggled to find balance all weekend and that hampered him throughout Race 28, he managed to finish in 18th.
Jack Smith, in his final race as a full-time Supercars driver enjoyed his own on-track battles to nip past James Golding for 19th at the line.
However it was a turn of fate for Pizza Hut Racing’s Macauley Jones.
Jones was turned around in the pitlane as he came in for his first stop, an unlikely occurrence that ruined his race.
The contact damaged the #96 Camaro and also put it multiple laps down, taking the chequered flag in 22nd.
Brad Jones Racing heads into a lengthy summer break now in Albury, with 2024 testing on the horizon.
Official testing for next season is at Winton Motor Raceway on February 7th.

"Good end to the year for us, did what we could I guess what we had and had a good fun race. Lots of battling out there and good to seal seventh in the championship - personal best for me. Pretty good for the team in third in the Teams' Championship too. Overall pretty happy with how we performed this year. Obviously there's some ups and downs, we would have liked to got rid of. Heading into next year we'll hopefully iron out some of those and try to be a bit more consistent. "

"Really tough raace for us again today. We just really haven't been able to catch a trick this weekend. So I'm not really sure what, what the go is. I feel like we've thrown everything and more at the car. And nothing has really changed our world, which is very abnormal from every other time I've driven the car and every other round. So just feel like we had a very different car this weekend that sort of didn't respond to anything. I think that's something we're gonna have to look through when we get back to the workshop. But we finished it and it was awesome to consolidate third in the Team's Championship and 11th in the drivers so it's still been a really positive season. It's just a little bit tough pill to swallow this weekend. But it's the way it goes and rock on next year. We know we have potential in these cars and as a team and with this type of weekend, like this weekend is pretty rough, and we know we're a whole lot better. I think if we felt like we weren't a lot better we'd probably be a lot more content with the weekend. We're really, really not very happy. So it was awesome to see Andre get a bit of something happening and finish off really strong. He certainly carried us this weekend."

Supercars Driver, #4 SCT Logistics Camaro
"It was a more interesting race today. Still didn't quite have the speed we wanted, but we were able to race a few people. Had to defend for the last stint which was quite enjoyable and had a really good race with Golding at the end. And we really just held on so yeah, it was a good way to finish off the year really. Definitely a lot happier today than yesterday."
Macauley Jones
Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"Had a good start actually - it felt really speedy at first stint there. Was using its tyres a little bit hard in the first stint. Then getting turned around and pitlane was a bit of an odd one to be honest. That kind of turned our race into a bit of a disaster. Sort of went two laps down from that and really just had to track along with what we had. So that was a bit of a frustrating end to what was looking promising. It kind of feels strange that the season is ending to be honest, it feels like it's gone by very fast. It's been a good challenge to learn the new cars and working with my engineer for the year Andrew [Donelly], which has been a lot of fun. And just look to set up for the start of next year a bit better. Hopefully we can identify where we're weak, which is probably qualifying at the moment and really improve that."

“We had a tough Sunday, after our poor qualifying in 17th we moved forward a handful of positions and struggled to get much further.”
