BJR Run Down: Sydney strategy and Townsville team orders

The Brad Jones Racing Run Down recaps the action on the streets of Townsville and previews the only night race for 2023, the Sydney SuperNight.

Macauley Jones and Chris Westwood (Brad Jones Racing General Manager) catch up on all the important topics since Townsville with Jones fresh in the country from a European jaunt.

While debriefing the weekend inTownsville, Jones and Westwood discuss the team orders drama which played out late in the race for Red Bull Ampol Racing on the Sunday.

The two Triple Eight drivers were in fact chasing down Jones’ team-mate Andre Heimgartner for a podium position as the radio back-and-forth aired.

Looking ahead to Sydney, Jones predicts that strategy will be important at the seventh round of the Supercars Championship.

With the 200km night race using only a single compulsory pit stop, it is on teams to then devise plans on how to best use their tyres on what is a high degradation track.

Another factor will be the headwind that is often felt at the Eastern Creek track.

While Gen3 cars have sampled Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this year in changing conditions it will still be an unknown element.

The less aero-affected cars may ultimately not be as skittish as their predecessors with the changing winds, but that will remain to be seen as cars get on track for racing this weekend.
