BJR finishes Darwin Friday practice on a high

The Brad Jones Racing quartet are confident heading into the meaty portion of the Darwin Triple Crown.

With two practice sessions in the book the BJR squad have had a competitive showing in the latter half of those.

With three cars in the top 10 and the fourth car only a handful of tenths behind, the team has strong hopes for qualifying for Race 13 tomorrow.

A late green tyre run for R&J Batteries Camaro of Andre Heimgartner secured sixth on the timing sheets with a 1:06.4511.

While hometown hero Bryce Fullwood (Middy’s Electrical Camaro), netted eighth.

Pizza Hut Racing’s Macauley Jones put in a 1:06.5201 to find himself 10th as the last runs came through.

Jack Smith in the SCT Logistics Camaro was on pace to improve on his run but made a slight error on his green set which didn’t see him move up the time sheet.

However Smith showed serious speed throughout the session.

Over the first practice the team experienced some issues with an updated engine map, with all GM drivers finding that the throttle wasn't responding as expected, for the following session we reverted back to the previous map.

Tomorrow morning the Supercars are back on track for Qualifying at 11:30 ACST.

Hear from our drivers…

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars Driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

"The first session was a bit mixed, but I feel like we improved the car made some better improvements for last one and I think we're pretty fast. So just trying to take a few more improvements without, I guess throwing our offer out of the window for tomorrow."

Bryce Fullwood

Supercars Driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro

"It's awesome to be  back up here in Darwin and in the new Gen3 car. Our first practice we were relatively happy. We about 12th or so, we opted not to run new tyres so we fell back down the order towards the end of the session but felt relatively happy with the car and then P2 I think we weren't too bad. We started out on greens and we're the fastest at the start of the session and made some adjustments with the car. Unfortunately, at the end of the session, we got a little bit bottled up behind a car but we're looking forward to going into into tomorrow."

Jack Smith

Supercars Driver, #14 SCT Logistics Camaro

"Today started off very tricky. We had some engine map changes that didn't make it very easy. Some problems with blipping which caused a lot  but fixed that up for the next session and got through all our changes. Had some some pretty positive moments. I didn't really finish on a high but we know what we we've got to change for tomorrow."

Macauley Jones

Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro

"Practice 1 was exciting, it's like a bull in a china shop. It was pretty loose in Practice 1. Obviously the mapping stuff was a bit of a disaster with rear locking and compression lock with the blipping not being too strong.  So that was a bit of a challenge to work around it really disrupted the flow. But we decided not to run greens and run them in Practice 2 which was a lot stronger for us. The car on the green tyres is pretty good. I think the deg here is reasonably high. So it's going to be interesting race, I think for managing tyres "
