BJR cars fight back under lights in sydney

The Brad Jones Racing drivers have fought back in a tumultuous night race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Andre Heimgartner suffered a bit in the first stint and had unfortunate contact in pitlane.

The R&J Batteries Camaro’s pace over the next two stints meant he climbed into 12th at the conclusion of the race.

On the first tour of the circuit Bryce Fullwood was involved in a bit of a melee, the Middy’s Racing driver also spun and dropped positions.

It pushed the #14 crew into a one stop strategy, bringing them in around halfway into the race and putting Fullwood right into the fight.

However he struggled on tyres and was spun by Richie Stanaway late in the race meaning he finished 19th.

Macauley Jones, who launched out of 17th on the grid was hit and spun on the first lap.

It put the Pizza Hut Racing Camaro down the order and also onto a single stop strategy.

The #96 car was 20th at the chequered flag.

Jaxon Evans remained trouble free for the entirety of the race but had some discomfort in the car.

The SCT Logistics entry finished in 18th.

The final day of the Sydney SuperNight kicks off with qualifying at 12:05 before racing at 16:05.

"Interesting night for us, just got a bit of an ordinary start and sort of suffered a bit from that but. Just figuring out how to pass people with our new setup and stuff was interesting. So not bad, not terrible just learning and I think at the moment considering the state of play with the Mustangs and Camaros we're not too bad actually. So I think we're probably fourth for the Camaros so not too bad overall."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"Tough day here in the 14. Felt like a missing opportunity in qualifying. Qualified a little bit further back than where we'd have liked and got a really good start and unfortunately got a bit tangled up there at the start of the race, and that really put us on the backfoot. And then I feel like the guys did a really good job with the one stop strategy, a tire life in the car was quite good and we got our way, got our way a fair bit further back up the field after being backwards and then got hit and got turned around again, turn four and facing the wrong way again. So to be honest, to be facing the wrong way twice in one race and not be last - I think there's quite a lot of positives to take out of the race. So looking forward to having a bit cleaner day tomorrow."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
" I felt like the car was a bit stronger for me this morning in qualifying.. I feel like what we need to work on is a bit more predictability and consistency in the car. Where I feel like the last six months we've sort of been soul searching trying to find the direction, which makes it hard to be a bit consistent and find your rhythm. So I feel like we're working on the same page a little bit closer and that's kind of nice. Your being able to predict the car a little bit more which is always the challenge in qualifying so that was definitely a step in the right direction. As for the race, got turned around which was a huge setback with no Safety Car and being 25 seconds behind that kind of hurt us. And then doing the one stop strategy, which at the time it's definitely the right decision but it's hard when you are 20 seconds further back than what you want to be. You come out straight when everyone else has done their second pit stop which then you lose a lot of time. You know being in that traffic and being off line so that was a bit of a disappointing race. Unfortunately but it's all part of the game.  Had a bit of damage from the hit on the first lap. The rim was lucky to hold on to be honest, most of the spokes are all cracked. Big chip missing out of it so that was lucky. That and abit of tow damage in the left rear but other than that nothing major which is nice thing"

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Logistics Camaro
"Difficult day, I guess made life a bit hard for myself by having a kerb short on my first flying lap in qualifying. So sort of had to play it safe and didn't maximize the second lap so started out of 22nd. Knew it was going to be really tough race. Obviously nice to drive at night but you know fighting some comfortability issues in the car at the moment. So struggling a little bit with a dead leg which in the end isn't ideal because I can't really extract the most out of the car as the race goes on. So little bit frustrated myself for that still being a continuing issue but you know, pretty confident that we can turn it up and have a better day come tomorrow."
