Work to do for BJR at OTR SuperSprint

Saturday at the OTR SuperSprint proved to be a battle for the Brad Jones Racing team, with the squad left with a bit of work to do overnight.

R&J Batteries charger Andre Heimgartner led the BJR crew home at The Bend Motorsport Park in 10th.

Heimgartner found he didn’t quite have the pace of those around him during the race, so will look over the data and make tweaks to the #8 Camaro overnight.

Macauley Jones stopped later than the rest of the BJR drivers and was making headway in the latter stages of Race 20.

With five laps to go the gearshift load sensor failed on the #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro, causing a misfire and dropping him back to 20th.

Bryce Fullwood crossed the line just behind Jones in the Middy’s Electrical entry.

Fullwood’s going to head back to the drawing board overnight as the #14 crew try and recapture some pace.

SCT Logistics’ Jack Smith was involved in a hefty first lap incident, Smith was unharmed but the front end of his car sustained quite a bit of damage.

The team had it back in the garage after the race and the initial prognosis looks positive; the crew will have it ready to go for tomorrow.

There’s two further races on Sunday, both consisting of 20 laps but first the team will head into qualifying at 9:45 ACST.

What our drivers had to say…

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars Driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
"So not a not a terrible day but a bit of a struggle across the team, just couldn't quite get it hooked up. Qualifying wasn't too bad, managed to qualify ninth and then finished 10th in the race, but was sort of battling to hold on to my position for the whole race. So yeah, a bit of a bit of a struggle. We need to have a bit of rethink, see what we can sort of change to make it a bit better race car and try and qualify a bit further up as well."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars Driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"We feel like we're missing something somewhere. We're just not exactly sure what that is. A bit of a struggle across the board but good to see Andre still hanging in there. We definitely need to go back to the drawing board with our car and tomorrow's a new day."

Jack Smith
Supercars Driver, #14 SCT Logistics Camaro
"It was just a really tough day today. We had glimpses of pace in practice but couldn't really get a good enough package together and then qualified poorly and got involved in a lap one incident which turned to a DNF. So that's was disappointing, and hopefully we can fix a car and there's nothing too badly damaged and we can go tomorrow."

Macauley Jones
Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"Practice is interesting around this joint, the cars are pretty different to last year and they're like fair bit slower so trying to adapt to that. It's actually quite a fun car to drive around here in like a qualifying sense. We didn't qualify quiet as well as what we would have liked, the car was actually pretty strong in like a race trim but quali was a little bit difficult to try and get the most out of that new tyre. The race was pretty good, I think we're about four spots further up and then broke a shift module. Then we lost about four or five spots once the shift module went.  It was a pretty hectic start to the race. I think the car is actually a really strong race car and that's always promising."
