Andre Heimgartner finished a hard fought fifth place in today's second race of the Beaurepairs Sydney SuperNight at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Heimgartner qualified outside the top 10 in 12th position earlier in the day while BJR team mate in the Middy's Racing #14 car Bryce Fullwood qualified 7th fastest to score a spot in the Top 10 Shootout - his first for BJR.

Intermittent rain and wet conditions greeted the Shootout which plagued the track all day and Fullwood said he struggled with grip but still managed to put the striking pink and blue Middy's Racing entry into position 9 for the race.

The race itself was impacted by changing weather conditions and safety car periods which resulted in a tough day at the office for Fullwood along with team mates Macauley Jones and Jack Smith. Contact with David Reynolds for Jones on lap one resulted in a puncture and while Jones was able to re-join the race and get back on the pace, recovering track position was always going to be a tall order.

Fullwood, Jones and SCT Logistics Racing's Jack Smith all tried to pre-empt a period of wet weather with an early stop for wets which didn't pay dividends when the rain lifted earlier than expected.

Heimgartner however was able to make the most of a successful middle stint and remain on track on super softs until yet another change in the weather demanded one last stop for wets in the dying stages of the race.

Heimgartner said today's race had gone some way to alleviating the disappointment of Saturday's result and had demonstrated the car not only had speed but that the team had gelled well together.

"I think we're all feeling very encouraged now going into the second round of the season in Tasmania and really looking forward to what we may be able to achieve in 2022."
