Podium tops off Sydney Supercars Championship round for BJR

Brad Jones Racing are celebrating another podium effort after Race 19 at the Sydney SuperNight in the Supercars Championship.

Andre Heimgartner has achieved his sixth podium of the year after an incredible race where he led for the initial few laps.

Heimgartner got a magnificent launch from the first row of the grid, from a qualifying lap that saw him line up second for the Sunday’s race.

The R&J Batteries driver led the field into the first corner and for the the first handful of laps before Shane van Gisbergen made his way past the #8 Camaro and soared into the distance.

The team conceded to the pace of van Gisbergen and settled for second.

Across the garage, Bryce Fullwood also had an incredible Sunday.

The Middy’s Electrical driver qualified fourth and sat on the grid just behind Heimgartner.

Unfortunately Fullwood had a less than ideal start and dropped a handful of positions.

The steerer of #14 is no stranger to making his way through the field and did his best to regain the lost ground.

As the chequered flag flew Fullwood was fifth which is equal to his best result so far this year.

Jack Smith had a lot of pace today, evidenced in him pushing in the fastest lap of the race, nabbing five bonus points for that effort.

The SCT Logistics driver finished in 15th.

Macauley Jones had strong pace in the second part of the race and was running as high as 15th before he was involved in an intra-garage incident that slapped him with a 5-second penalty.

Jones was dropped back to 18th with the penalty.

The Championship next heads to the eighth round at The Bend Motorsport Park on August 18-20.

What our drivers had to say...

Andre Heimgartner

Supercars Driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

"We good got a good start which was a big focus after yesterday and then I just put my head down. Had a bit of a fight with Shane [van Gisbergen] and decided just to back off to conserve the tyes and just trying to consolidate. But car's pretty speedy. Not quite enough to catch Shane in the end but really happy to come home with another podium."

Bryce Fullwood

Supercars Driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro

"Awesome day for us here in Sydney. We qualified fourth today, came fifth in the race. Really happy with that we made some pretty good progress overnight with our race car. I think our quali car is quite strong this weekend. Really good strong results for Andre too. So, cracking result for the team - awesome for the team's championship. I moved up to ninth, two spots in Drivers' Championship, which is awesome news for us. I feel like we're on a good run, a good trajectory here and things are building nicely and it's all making sense for us."

Jack Smith

Supercars Driver, #14 SCT Logistics Camaro

"Qualifying today was slightly better, managed to get a lap, which was handy. Not the position we really wanted to be in. We had good race pace, and we knew we're gonna have a good race pace. We managed to move up to 15th from 21st and got the fastest lap of the race. It was a good, fun race. Strategy was really good. We really just did everything we could today to make up positions and it felt good to get a reward for that."

Macauley Jones

Supercars Driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro

“We had a pretty good quali session, starting out of 14th was a big positive for us today and then in the race we were actually quite strong, and had a bit of pace. Just unfortunate it unfolded the way it did. On to the next one.”
