JAXON EVANS CONFIRMED ALONGSIDE JACK SMITH FOR THE BATHURST 1000

Brad Jones Racing and SCT Motorsport are excited to welcome Porsche ace Jaxon Evans as co-driver alongside Jack Smith for the upcoming Bathurst 1000.

Evans undertook an evaluation day in Smith’s SCT Logistics Racing Commodore at Winton today and slotted into the car and team seamlessly.

The 2018 Carrera Cup Australia Champion is currently contesting selected races of the NLS Nürburgring Endurance Series in the Porsche GT3R and was in the winning car of the 12-hour last weekend.

The Kiwi-born racer also competed for two years on the Formula 1 support bill as a Porsche Junior driver in the Porsche Supercup and won the Rookie Championship in Carrera Cup Deutschland in 2019.

He then went on to win the Carrera Cup France Championship in 2020 before finishing third in the FIA World Endurance Championship (GTE-AM) and runner up in the Porsche Supercup.

“I arrived back in Australia just last week and to be in the SCT Logistics car today turning laps at Winton has been amazing,” Evans said.

“Endurance racing isn’t new to me, and neither is Bathurst but heading there in a Supercar is definitely going to be a pinch me moment.”

“The car felt very comfortable from the outset and the team has been so enthusiastic and welcoming, I’m feeling really confident about heading to Bathurst alongside Jack and the whole BJR and SCT Motorsport team.”

It won’t be the first time the duo has raced side by side, with their connection dating back to their days cutting their teeth in karts where they both drove for the Birel Kart Team.

SCT’s Head of Motorsport Programmes Andrew Jones said: “The evaluation day has been a good opportunity for both Jaxon and the team to work together and get a feel for how each other goes about their business at the circuit”.

“From our end, Jaxon has delivered today on what our expectations are from a driver of his calibre, and we now welcome him as part of the team for the upcoming Bathurst 1000 and I think that the combination of Jack and Jaxon is a very exciting one”.

Smith echoed Jones’ sentiments and said he was excited to head to the Mountain alongside Evans.

“I was able to do the allocated ten laps in the car today under the rules and then we spent the day working with Jaxon, Paul (Forgie) and Jason (Bonney). The test day tomorrow also here at Winton should give us a chance to fine tune some things and we’re all looking forward to getting to Bathurst in a couple of weeks’ time.”
