More to come from BJR at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500
A soggy Friday on the Gold Coast has hidden the potential of the four Brad Jones Racing Camaros.
The Gold Coast 500 kicked off in damp conditions with the heavens opening just as the first practice session officially started.
All of the BJR entries had speed across the day, however the timing sheets haven’t displayed the true speed with both the wet conditions and kerb strikes both affecting the results.
With less than a second covering first to seventeenth in the both practice sessions, the field is incredibly close.
Andre Heimgartner (R&J Batteries Camaro) ended Friday in 7th, having experienced a clutch issue in the first session that kept him in the garage for some time.
The Middy’s Electrical Camaro was looking speedy throughout both sessions, it was one of the fastest through the start of P2 but after running afoul of the kerb sensors, Bryce Fullwood ended up 14th.
Fullwood is still learning how to maneuver around the sensors now that the tyre bundles have been removed, but is positive that they’ll move forward tomorrow.
Macauley Jones is positive that there’s pace to find in the Pizza Hut Racing machine, with the Albury-based driver looking to make some gains over Saturday after finishing 20th fastest in P2 with a kerb strike.
The SCT Logistics entry will be looking to pull together a tidier third sector after nearly-matching car 8 in the first parts of the lap, Jack Smith will look over the data tonight to then make changes and go again tomorrow.
The BJR cars head straight into qualifying on the streets of Surfers Paradise tomorrow at 11:35 AEST.

"We had a decent day across the board with the two practice sessions. It was raining a bit throughout the day and luckily we got some dry laps for tomorrow, it's looking dry the next couple of days which is awesome. Hopefully we get sun, sunny like the Gold Coast kinda should be. We'll go on to qualify tomorrow morning. The car wasn't too bad and we ended up seventh. Still some little things we need to tune up, specifically through the chicane with our car. And then we'll go again tomorrow"

"Just finished up here Surfers on Friday ended up 15th and 14th for the day. Second practice, I feel like we made some good changes with the car. I didn't quite unfortunately didn't get my last green hit, got a kerb strike so I didn't get the lap. It was a shame as I felt like there was a bit more on the table there. I feel like we're quite competitive and we're gonna have more homework to do overnight. I think I just need to make sure I get these kerbs under control, obviously it's sort of like juggling an invisible line out there at the moment. So just trying to get that under control and I think we'll be competitive. So looking forward to tomorrow."

“It was overall a positive day today, there were some changing conditions which made it a bit difficult to get a read. But it wasn’t too bad. The car seems to have some pace so hopefully we can look over the data tonight and come back tomorrow and have a better day.”

"Pretty interesting weather conditions, we got a lot more dry running than we probably expected which was good because you don't get a whole lot of practice here. It's a dope track, love it and think everything ran pretty smoothly. Didn't get a great run on the greens at the end of that second practice with a bit of traffic and a lock brake, so that wasn't ideal, but I feel like the car has a pretty good balance and we'll see what tomorrow has in store for us."
