Heimgartner seals best Bathurst 1000 grid position

Supercars

Andre Heimgartner’s first Bathurst 1000 Shootout experience didn’t go to plan for the Brad Jones Racing driver but he locked in his best ever start position for the Great Race.

Just as the R&J Batteries driver got his Shootout lap underway he locked up slightly and ran off at Hell’s Corner.

Importantly there is no damage to the car and the #8 Camaro will line up 10th for the Bathurst 1000.

The rest of the BJR contingent had turned their attention to race preparation over the two one-hour-long practice sessions.

Across the garages all drivers seem to be fairly happy with the adjustments made over the course of the day.

In the morning’s co-driver session the drivers were tasked with worn-tyre race runs to simulate conditions during their stints.

Jordan Boys in the #96 Camaro finished Practice 5 in fourth, leading the BJR squad.

While Heimgartner and co-driver Declan Fraser were the highest BJR pairing in Practice 6.

The team is confident in the pace of the cars ahead of the biggest race on the Supercars calendar.

Sunday starts with a 20-minute Warm Up session (8:15 AED) before the Great Race at 11:30.

Super2

Round 5 of the Super2 Series is wrapped up for this weekend with both Cody Gillis and Elliott Cleary hoping to make the most of the final round of the category in a month’s time.

Gillis had a solid Qualifying session this morning and parked his #9 Bowser Bean ZB Commodore in ninth to start the race.

The 25-year-old driver lost a few positions off the start line but was able to climb his way back ultimately finishing in eighth.

Elliott Cleary has had a tough weekend as a whole but has been able to take in some lessons from the unforgiving Mountain.

The teenager qualified 15th and ultimately finished Race 2 in the same position.

He'll take stock of the weekend and reset ahead of Adelaide.

Supercars Quoteboard

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
“Disappointing I guess to finish the shooutout that way. Obviously, we’re still starting in the ten which is overall a good starting position. Most importantly, the car is speedy so I’m just looking forward to tomorrow and the race to hopefully put that shootout behind me.”

Declan Fraser
Supercars co-driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
“Pretty good day for us in car 8. Rolled out in the Co-driver session with a relatively strong focus on our race running after we went out and laid down a lap time. Happy with where the car was at. The next session we focused a lot on driver changes and stuff before we let Andre have a dip at a pre-Top 10 shootout run, which ended up really well. We found a few things in the car that we tuned up for the shootout which unfortunately just got caught out a little bit. But Andre did an awesome job to get us there and we're going to be starting P 10 for the big one which is an awesome spot when it comes to winning the race and that's all that matters.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
“Saturday done here. It was good to do a lot of work on our race car. I'm pretty happy at the minute and Jay got a heap of laps in obviously with his co-driver session in the morning. All smiles here for the minute and looking forward to going into the race tomorrow.”

Jaylyn Robotham
Supercars co-driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
“A good day today. Had the coey (co-driver) session this morning. It was good to get a race run in. Had a chance on some better tyres at the end, but didn't really get them up to temp quite well. So only did a flyer or two on those, but pretty happy with where we ended up. Second session went out on some old tyres and still finding my way around here. Pretty happy with the progress we've made and, looking forward to tomorrow with the long day.”

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
“I felt like the day wasn't too bad. Jordan did a really good job in Practice 5 this morning and I feel like the car is pretty solid. It felt pretty decent which is nice. We just did some race running stuff in prep for tomorrow. It’s obviously a long, long old day and the conditions are rough out there. The change in wind direction from yesterday and the sunlight when it does come out is making it hard to balance the tyre and whatnot. So, we'll see what tomorrow brings us. It’s a long day and looking forward to it.”

Jordan Boys
Supercars co-driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
“Really good day today. Probably the happiest I’ve ever been with the car here at Bathurst so it's really encouraging. I feel like Macca, and I are both really comfortable. The practice pit stops in the live session were good. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I feel like we're gonna have a really good day.”

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #50 SCT Logistics Camaro
“Saturday done. I think it wasn't a bad day. Obviously, it was just practice for us so pretty happy with the way things went. We’re obviously fine tuning, getting comfortable in the car. I made a little mistake and parked it in the gravel, but I think we're pretty happy with where our race cars at. I think Dean's a little bit more settled in now as well. He's feeling a bit healthier which is always positive. Feeling pretty confident for tomorrow's race and starting from 15th. Hopefully we can move forward and have some fun.”

Dean Fiore
Supercars co-driver, #50 SCT Logistics Camaro
“Today was good. The car feels quite strong and is very compliant, very predictable. It’s good on both light and heavy tanks. It's very good for a Saturday and looking forward to a long Sunday. Very long Sunday.”

Super2 Quoteboard

Elliott Cleary
Super2 driver, #19 Sync Music ZB Commodore
“Tough weekend at Bathurst. Not what I wanted but I learnt a lot and am ready to reset and go again in Adelaide in about a month. Thank you to all my supporters and the team. We’ll come back stronger in Adelaide.”

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 Bowser Bean ZB Commodore
“An okay ending to a not so good weekend. We had a pretty strong day today. We obviously learn a lot and just being Bathurst meant we took a big step this morning. Quali was pretty good, and the race was good as well. We probably could have ended up a little bit better position wise, but we think the pace is there, and we're a lot more confident leaving this round than we were at Sandown. We’ll push on to Adelaide and work on a few things, and we'll go from there.”
