Fullwood scores first podium with BJR

Bryce Fullwood has made his way to the third step of the podium in Race 18 at the Tasmania SuperSprint with Brad Jones Racing.

The Middy’s Racing driver had speed out of the gate, qualifying in sixth; from there, Fullwood has a stellar start dicing for fifth.

Fullwood held his nerve as others around him had dramas, bringing out a Safety Car on lap 7 meaning he was promoted to fourth.

He was called to pitlane under the Safety Car and the #14/#8 crew were lightning quick on the two-rear-tyre stop.

Fullwood held position then for the majority of the race before again, drama unfolded in front he capatilised and found himself third at the line.

It's Fullwood's first podium with the team and his second in Supercars.

Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Camaro wasn’t far behind in sixth.

The #8 driver was on the same strategy as Fullwood, having pitted under the first Safety Car for two rears.

Heimgartner came through from 12th on the grid to grab a decent haul of points from the 55 lap race.

Macauley Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing garage employed a two-stop strategy, coming to pitlane during both Safety Car periods.

The second he took on four tyres which meant the #96 car had pace late in the race and Jones was able to come through to 16th.

Unfortunately the second Safety Car was called due to an incident with the SCT Logistics Camaro.

Aaron Love (BRT), made contact with Jaxon Evans causing a heavy hit with the wall that has done a decent amount of damage to the #12 car.

The team will have to assess the damage back at the workshop.

BJR are scheduled to test on August 27th and September 3rd ahead of the enduro season, however question marks hang over the former.

"Positive way to finish the weekend. It's good Bryce got on the podium, and we finished sixth So to have two cars up there is really positive for the team. Good morale boost ahead of the Enduro season and our two test days. So, positive end, and hopefully a bit of a turning point in our season."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"Obviously it means a lot. We all put our blood, sweat and tears into our racing, you know, we do absolutely everything we can. This sport has a knack of really kicking you when you're down. And well, for us, at our team, we've really struggled this first part of the year. We had a really good Bathurst [500] and then from there, it's been really, really tough. And obviously we're really strong last year, and we just haven't quite been on top of the cars. And you know, the guys have had a really big last couple of weeks. The guys and girls at BJR, haven't slept a lot in the last couple of weeks, and have done a lot of work. And they've really turned some stuff around for us. I can really see the grit in the team, like they really wanted this. And so it's awesome to be able to repay them for all the hard work. And look forward to trying to continue to form on into the enduros."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"A bit disappointed with qualifying. I felt like we made some improvements for today but had abit of confusion at the end. There a miscommunication at the end of the first part of the qualifying  The race was pretty damn hectic, there was a lot going on in all areas with pit stops and Safety Cars. Not a bad end result, sort of kept a little bit out of trouble there. Some positives to take away"

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Logistics Camaro
"It finished pretty bad to be honest. This morning was actually okay. I think as a team we found a bit of pace in our cars in qualifying. There was certainly potential there. But a driving error cost us a starting grid higher up than 18th. So I mean the margins are so tight in Supercars that  we can't afford to make little mistakes. So a little bit disappointed in that, but thought we had a good race car. So was looking forward to trying to race forward. The way the race played out after the first Safety Car period, pit stop was good by the guys. We jumped a couple people that had to double stack. Got caught up in a bit of the argy-bargy stuff down the mid pack, and then unfortunately, got sent exit stage left at turn one, and I hit the fence and didn't finish the race. So obviously, very disappointed to not finish, but more so disappointed for the workload that that's put on the team ahead of our test day in a couple of weeks, or in a week in a bit. So hopefully we can, we can get that sorted and fixed and get back on track and focus on the enduros with Dean."
