BJR Run Down predicts tyres to be big factor at Melbourne SuperSprint

The Brad Jones Racing Run Down has previewed the second round of the Repco Supercars Championship as the category appears as a support for Formula 1 at Albert Park.

Driver, Macauley Jones and BJR General Manager, Chris Westwood discuss what factors they think will come into play over the course of the four sprint races planned at the Victorian street circuit.

The track itself is worlds different to that of Newcastle, where the Gen3 cars were tested in a racing format for the first time; this high-speed venue will give drivers a real test of the reduced aero on the new cars.

Although, it will be a large unknown how that will then have a knock-on effect on tyre life and overall lap speed.

Then there are also question marks after last year’s event about whether the softer tyres will still suffer from overheating and how drivers will manage that.

With the condensed format, the guys believe it will be crucial to be on top of understanding the tyres and car setup straight out of the gate.
