BJR leaves Townsville with homework ahead of Sydney SuperNight

Andre Heimgartner has led the Brad Jones Racing contingent in Race 14 on the streets of Townsville.

Heimgartner finished 11th in the 250km race, which is where the R&J Batteries driver started.

While Heimgartner was positioned well heading into the final stint he struggled massively after his final stop.

The team will investigate the cause of the Kiwi’s struggles.

Bryce Fullwood moved forward five positions after having a rough first portion of the race.

Fullwood’s three-stop strategy had him looking faster but unfortunately he was a bit disadvantaged by having a three-tyre stop which stems from his Top Ten Shootout lock-up yesterday.

The Pizza Hut Racing Camaro had speed to burn but was unfortunately caught behind other cars and unable to get through.

Meaning Macauley Jones finished 19th.

Jaxon Evans in the SCT Motorsport entry found himself pretty uncomfortable in the car in the latter stages of the race which hindered the #12.

The SCT car came across the line in 21st position.

With a short turnaround from Townsville to the next race at Sydney Motorsport Park, BJR will take the time to regroup and come back stronger.

The Sydney SuperNight runs over the 19-21 July

Super 2
A tricky Sunday tops off a learning weekend for BJR's Super2 drivers Elliott Cleary and Cody Gillis.

The pair both struggled to piece their laps together in the single 20 minute qualifying session which lined Cody up on the grid in 13th and team-mate Elliott in 19th.

Gillis had a decent start but was caught up in a Lap 1 incident with other drivers, tumbling him down the order.

The #9 Tropic Petroleum Commodore driver crossed the line in 21st.

Cleary was slow off the line and lost places as a result.

He clawed his way back up the grid but fell short and ultimately came home in 20th.

The Super2 duo are back for Round 4 of the series at the Sandown 500 on September 13-15.

Supercars Quoteboard

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
"Tough day not exactly what we want as a group but some solids from the weekend had two cars in the top 10 on Saturday. Just have a little bit of work to do with the race car."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"Not an ideal day for us today. In qualifying really struggled. With the new direction we've gone with our cars it is just really tricky to get on top of it and didn't quite nail it. And then in the race, we went with the three-stop strategy, which I think worked out not too bad. But just car was really slow in the first stint till we could make a change and then it kind of took off. So I think the speed ended up not too bad by the end of the race. Not an ideal weekend, I think for the group in general, but I think there's a few more positives this weekend than we've had for a while so keen for Sydney."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"The car was pretty hard to drive in qualifying. We made a pretty decent swing overnight and it did the opposite to what we sort of thought it was going to do. The race was pretty tough. Went to a three stop strategy. Feel like the car is not too bad. Honestly, I had to work pretty hard for 19th."

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Logistics Camaro
"Tough Sunday for us. In qualifying didn't really put it together. So starting further back than where we obviously would want to be. In the race kind of felt like a rookie, struggling with tyre deg and understanding how the tyre drops off. I feel like the limited running yesterday probably hurt us a little bit but, you know, some things to take away. Some things to study from my point of view, but I think we'll do some do some digging into the data and I'll hopefully come out firing in Sydney."

Super2 Quoteboard

Elliott Cleary
Super2 driver, #19 ZB Commodore
"Not the best day today. I made an error in quali which put us on the back foot and then in the race flat spotted the tyres avoiding an incident which hurt us throughout the race. Was still good to see our race pace was very fast, just a mistake on my behalf towards the end of the day. Still some positives to take out of the race and I’m keen to get to Sandown."

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 ZB Commodore
"It was a bit of a sour ending to a promising weekend. We lacked a tiny bit in qualifying which meant we started in the mid-pack and unfortunately got caught up in an incident at the start of the race which meant we were racing with a damaged car. Disappointing weekend considering we had lots of pace on board. Big thanks to the team and mechanics for their huge effort and to Tropic Petroleum, Coca Cola and Allen's lollies for the support. Let's get back to Sandown"
