Abandoned race disappointing for eager BJR crew

The wet conditions at the Melbourne SuperSprint has wreaked havoc on Race 7 of the Supercars Championship.

Cars were sent to the grid before a Safety Car start was called and while all cars did three laps behind the Safety Car the event was red flag and eventually called.

It’s disappointing for the Brad Jones Racing team to not be able to have the chance to fight for a result, especially when Bryce Fullwood had qualified inside the top ten.

BJR is 8th and 9th in the Team’s Championship after the weekend with Andre Heimgartner sitting in 11th in the Drivers’ standings.

The team now prepares to head to New Zealand, where last year Andre Heimgartner made a visit to the top step of the podium.

It’ll be a home round for both Heimgartner and SCT Motorsport’s Jaxon Evans.

Teams hit the track at Taupo on Friday April 11.

Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
"Overall not too disappointed with the last race being called off. We had a tough qualifying, so in a way it worked in our favor. Finishing tenth for the round meant we managed to limit the damage, which is a positive. A weekend again where the speed was there at times, we just need to work on consistency and extracting the most out of it. But the speed is there compared to last year, so plenty of positives to take away. Next up, we’re in New Zealand, which is always great. Can’t wait to get back to Taupo, a track I love racing at with an incredible atmosphere and, of course having my family trackside."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Brad Jones Racing Camaro

"A real shame not to get that race in. It was our best qualifying of the weekend and we really needed that race to salvage some points. So a real shame for us in Car 14, it feels like we’ve taken a lot of hits this weekend. Definitely not our weekend. Really looking forward to Taupo now. The boys have a big job cleaning the cars for all the quarantine processes, and we don’t even have a race to show for it. A lot of work for everyone, unfortunately."

"It’s always tough preparing for the wet when you can’t control the conditions; you just have to be confident in what you’ve got and nail the tyre pressures. Starting from where we were, it was always going to be hard but the conditions were just too bad out there. It was pretty dicey and visibility was tough. The track was glary, so it was difficult to spot white lines and curbs especially with the spray. It was disappointing not to get a race in, but looking forward to Taupo."

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

"Disappointing not to race today. I was really looking forward to a wet race but unfortunately the conditions didn’t allow it. A sad way to end the Grand Prix weekend. But there’s plenty to review and work on before Taupo. I’m really looking forward to getting back there; it was the first place I scored a top 10 last year and being my home country, it’s always special. Having family trackside will make it even better. Just being back in New Zealand is something I’m excited about, so hopefully it all comes together."
