QUALIFIED: Position 15th – 1m10.6731
FASTEST: Cam Waters – 1m10.1095
RECAP: Final qualifying session for 2019 and it was a tough one for the Timken Racing Supercar. Struggling with balance, Nick couldn’t get the best out of the car in his first flying laps. After coming in for a fresh set of tyres for a final flyer, Nick was, unfortunately, caught up in traffic and missed the opportunity to have a crack at the top ten shootout.
TOP TEN SHOOTOUT
POLE POSITION: Jamie Whincup – 1m10.5551
RACE 32 / 250KMS / 95 LAPS
FINISHED: Position 9th
WINNER: Jamie Whincup
RECAP: The last race of the season was not short of excitement. Nick quick off the mark once again getting a great start to the race. Not long after, the first Safety Car was deployed. With most cars on track choosing the option to pit, Nick unfortunately didn’t hear the call to come in over the radio and completed another lap before pitting, causing him to stack behind stablemate Slade. It was a costly mistake and he re-joined further down the grid.
Eager to regain positions, Nick fought his way back through the pack, sitting comfortably in 12th . Nick didn’t give up, finding more pace and pulling off an exceptional pass on Heimgartner to move in to 9th position.
It was a great drive from Nick after a tough start and he crossed the line in the Timken Racing Supercar for the last race of 2019 in 9th position and also finishing off the year in a career best 9th position in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
Well done team!
THE FINAL WORD FROM NICK FOR 2019
“I gave it everything I had today and happy to have climbed my way back up to 9th after I started down in 15th. I had a good start but just didn’t hear the radio call to come in and pit, so I missed my slot and ended up having to stack behind Sladey. This wasn’t ideal and cost me a fair few spots.
I had a lot of fun out on track, it’s a very physically demanding track and a challenge. Thanks to all the team at BJR for all their hard work over the weekend and throughout the year.
It’s been my best season result thus far, coming 9th in the Championship so I’m happy with that.
A huge thank you to Timken and the team for their support over the weekend. It was great to have them here on track and I hope they enjoyed themselves.
It’s been a year with ups and downs, but I feel like we are getting stronger as a team and will continue to grow. I’m looking forward to what the year ahead has to offer,”
