Brad Jones Racing will tackle the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship in 2020 with an expanded four-car line-up when young Queenslander Jack Smith steps up to the main game with the backing of SCT Logistics.
20-year old Smith started his journey to Supercars with BJR in 2017 when he won the Super 3 (formally known as the Australian Kumho V8 Touring Car Championship) Championship crown.
For the past two years, Jack has been competing in the Dunlop Super2 Series with BJR and SCT Logistics - scoring a maiden top-three race finish at Symmons Plains. While campaigning in Super 2, Jack has picked up valuable experience as a Supercars wildcard and enduro co-driver - with 13 race starts under his belt. His wildcard debut with BJR in 2019 at round two of the championship in Tasmania showed his considerable potential as he outshone some highly credentialed full-time drivers in both qualifying sessions.
Jack has enjoyed his progression and looks forward to the year ahead in the main game, ‘I am very excited about 2020, my first year as a full-time Supercars driver,’ Smith said. ‘Over the past four years I’ve experienced many highs and lows in various categories, but it’s all been a lead up to next year, when the real work begins.
‘BJR has been my home for the past three years and I feel great about competing in my first full time year with them. There are a lot of aspects of this sport that I’ve learnt, and I’m looking forward to continuing that learning next year. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and it’s going to be a big year for myself, family, team and sponsor group’.
Australia’s largest privately-owned rail freight operator, SCT Logistics, will partner with BJR for Smith’s 2020 campaign. Established in 1974 by Peter Smith, SCT is now a national, multi-modal transport and logistics company. SCT has branches throughout Australia with offices in every major capital city and regional location.
Pete Smith, Owner SCT Logistics knows the importance of professionalism and consistency, ‘We’ve been lucky enough to have forged a strong relationship over the past few years with Brad & Andrew Jones from BJR,’ Smith said. ‘Being able to work with such a professional team has meant great achievements for Jack and SCT in the Super 3, Super 2 and now into the Main Game. SCT and I, along with Jack’s avid sponsors, are very keen to retain this kind of connection into 2020 and looking forward to an even more successful year ahead.’
Jack is eager to join the Supercar field for his rookie year in the Championship and everyone at BJR is ecstatic for the year ahead with four cars lining up on the grid come the Superloop Adelaide 500. Watch this space!
