RACE 30 / 161 LAPS / 500KMS
FINISHED: Position 11th
WINNER: Jamie Whincup / Craig Lowndes
RECAP: Race 30, the last of the Pirtek Enduro Cup was held in dry conditions at Sandown and saw Nick and Tim start from 17th position on the grid. Tim drove the first stint in the Fujitsu Racing Supercar and used the drama-filled start to his advantage. With multiple cars slow off the grid, he was able to advance in the field whilst staying out of trouble. The usually hectic Sandown first lap was tricky again, and the team luckily came away unscathed.
It was a great first stint by Tim and he handed the car over to Nick in a solid mid-field position. While continually searching for the ultimate balance in the car, Nick continued the uneventful run. Despite the car being aggressive on tyre degradation, he was able to continue the push up the field.
The high tyre wear was something which stuck for the entirety of the race meaning Nick needed to continually adjust his pace according to the grip available.
Starting from the rear of the grid is never easy, and both Nick and Tim took home a solid haul of points in 11th after moving through the field. The team now moves to the final round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship in Newcastle.
THE WORD FROM NICK
“Starting from the back of the grid was never going to be easy and it wasn’t. Tim did a great job on his start and fought his way through the pack staying out of any trouble and handed the car smoothly over to me. I did my best to fight through the grid but a race with little Safety Cars is difficult to fight your way back.
P11 is pretty good seen as though we started back in 17th position. It was a difficult weekend with the weather being pretty intense so that didn’t make anything easy.
Thank you to everyone at Fujitsu, there were a fair few guests on track today and we really felt the support. The car looked mint!
We’ll back next year to try and hopefully we can turn this bad run at Sandown around.”
