TRACK TIMES

PRACTICE FOUR (ALL DRIVERS)

TIME: 10:40-11.10am

CONDITIONS: Dry, some cloud

FINISHED: Position 19th - 1m08.2283

FASTEST: Scott McLaughlin - 1m07.5425

RECAP: Nick used the full 30-minute session to begin Saturday’s busy day of action. While the weather was still overcast, conditions were dry throughout the session. In preparation for the afternoon’s qualifying session, the team were searching for the best possible setup for the car.

QUALIFYING

TIME: 12:25-12:45pm

CONDITIONS: Rain, wet

QUALIFIED: Position 21st – 1m08.6394

POLE POSITION: Scott McLaughlin – 1m07.7736

RECAP: The session threw up all types of weather, with rain making conditions difficult for all - ultimately parking Nick for most of the time in the pits waiting for the rain to lift. With one opportunity to get a flying lap and every other car on the same strategy we missed out on getting a clear run.

RACE FOR THE GRID - 60KMS – (CO-DRIVER RACE)

TIME: 14:25

CONDITIONS: Rain, wet

FINISHED: Position 16th

WINNER: Craig Lowndes

RECAP: In the first race for the grid, the Fujitsu Racing Supercar moved ahead in the field while the work on improving the car continued ahead of the corresponding main driver session later in the afternoon. Typical Melbourne showers caused drama on track, with a few coming unstuck in the tricky Sandown conditions. Nick will begin his race for the grid session in 16th position.

RACE FOR THE GRID - 60KMS – (MAIN DRIVER RACE)

TIME: 17:20

CONDITIONS: Rain, wet

FINISHED: Position 18

WINNER: Jamie Whincup

RECAP: Nick took to the track in his race for the grid late on Saturday afternoon in a race that finalised Sunday’s race starting position. With weather conditions and tyre choice again tricky, the team made the call to begin the race on slicks on a drying track. Previously in the weekend, high winds had meant that the Sandown track was drying quickly but sadly not in this race and the team were left on the wrong tyre for much of the race.

 THE WORD FROM NICK

“It was just one of those days as this weather is all over the place. It has been raining on and off all day and it’s really making difficult for us to decide what direction to take with our set-up.

Quali didn’t go to plan and I only had one lap to get a flying lap in as it was just so wet and unfortunately, I didn’t get.

Blanchard had difficult conditions because it’s never easy starting at the back end of the grid. He brought it home in one piece as there was a fair bit of carnage going on in his race.

We just opted for the wrong tyre for me as we honestly thought the track was going to dry up. It had been drying up at fast rate throughout the day, so we bet on it to do the same for the last race but as the wind decreased during the race the track stayed dry. It was a team choice and we’re all in this together so unfortunately, we went the wrong way on that one, but we really had a 50/50 chance.

The long one is up tomorrow so we’ll take the day as it comes and see what the weather throws at us.”
