RECAP – The final day at Pukekohe Raceway begun with a twenty- minute qualifying session. The weather keeping everyone on their toes with drizzles of rain on and off. Nick, qualifying in 7th place and proceeding through to the Top Ten Shootout.
Feeling confident heading into the Top Ten Shootout, Nick however lacked in grip throughout his lap and was not able to get the most out of the car. Finishing in P9 after the session concluded. However, an error made on the team’s behalf with not releasing Nick early enough from pit lane to commence his lap unfortunately resulting in being disqualified from the session and bumping Nick back to start Race 24 in P10.
Getting a great start, Nick found his rhythm early showing great race pace. David Reynolds bought out the Safety Car coming to a stop on track. Thankfully not getting caught up in the Safety Car debacle and sliding back into the pack in the correct order. Nick sitting in P1 with still one pit stop to go, the strategy was to keep him out to gain a lead on the pack. Completing his final pit stop, Nick pulled out just behind Chaz Mostert in P4. With fresh tyres and a fast race car the fight was on. Nick showing exceptional driving skills, fought his way closer but unfortunately couldn’t pass Mostert, finishing off in P4. A tremendous effort by Nick and all the crew at BJR.
A test day coming up as we prepare for Mount Panorama. All focus is on keeping this momentum going as we head into the Bathurst 1000.
THE WORD FROM NICK
“A mega result finishing P4 today after yesterday’s mishap and to be honest probably were we should have been yesterday. A massive credit to the crew at BJR for all their hard work. We went through a lot of different changes and set-ups trying to find the best fit for Pukekohe and in preparation for Bathurst. A big thank you to NZ Safety Blackwoods for the support this weekend and everyone who came out to race. It’s a track I really look forward to coming to. “
“I can’t wait to get to the mountain now, I’ll see you all at Bathurst”
