RACE DAY RECAP
Today’s 200km race in Townsville marked a special milestone for the Brad Jones Racing team – their 600th championship race start! An achievement which has been 20 years in the making, after the team debuted in the Supercars championship at Phillip Island in 2000.
Nick and the Elite Roads Supercar had a strong start to the day, finishing 2nd in the opening, overcast practice session. The sun was shining for teams during qualifying, and with the change in conditions the drivers had to push hard to try get those fast times in.
Nick started today’s race from 11th, and in a Townsville first, every single driver crossed the finish line! This was the first 100% driver finish at the Reid Park circuit; with a hot, flat out race, from start to finish.
Nick charged forward to finish in 8th, showing strong pace in his final stint which will provide the Elite Roads Supercar with momentum heading into tomorrow’s final 200-kilometer battle.
Coverage of the final day of action from Townsville can be seen on FOX Sports, with every session live, plus coverage on Channel TEN from 11am.
“That was one of the hardest Supercar races I’ve ever done. It was incredibly hard to drive the cars today as it felt like we were sliding around and lacking grip, so it required a huge effort today. It was good to finish inside the top ten, but it was such a tough drive out there. We’ll see what improvements we can make overnight and try to go better again tomorrow.”
