RECAP

Supercars hosted their first ever night race at Barbagallo Raceway this evening, which was also the third time in championship history that a night race has been run on Australian soil on a Friday.

With the track being resurfaced recently, the long standing qualifying and race lap records were smashed today, by over 2 seconds for each time.

The Holden Guaranteed Value Supercar found its form today, finishing both practice and qualifying inside the top ten. Nick got a fantastic start to tonight’s 120km race, moving up two spots by the end of the second lap. After the first stop Nick found he had damage to one of the left-hand tyres and would need to manage this over the race to ensure he would make it across the line. He didn’t shift too far in the order, finishing where he started in 7th, making it his consecutive 7th top ten finish!

Tomorrow the Perth Supercars show only gets bigger and better, with another practice, knockout qualifying session and a longer 200km race with a super driver introduction and light show expected for all the fans.

THE WORD FROM NICK

“We couldn’t get the tyre to turn on at all in practice under lights last night, so once we got it right today I was like, ah, that’s why everyone said it was so grippy. Last night Sladey (team-mate Tim) and I thought it felt like last year.”

“We had a massively different set-up in 14 versus 8. We both went different ways in this morning’s practice session to get on top of it, so after practice they changed Sladey’s setup to mine and we both qualified in the top ten.”

“The first stint was quite good and I managed to pass a few cars early on, the differences in strategy and tyres saw the order change a little bit again, and we finished where we started. Tomorrow we’ll aim to improve our outright pace that little bit more so we can claim positions and then hold onto them!”
