THE RECAP & WORD FROM NICK / MACAULEY
The sun finally shone on Mount Panorama today, allowing drivers to get their first full practice session in on dry and sunlit circuit. Nick and Macauley ran through their desired plan for the final hour-long practice session and were very happy with the result – finishing in 4th. The Repco Authorised Service Supercar will be starting the great race; the ‘Bathurst 1000’ from 7th position. Nick Percat made it into his first ever Bathurst Top Ten Shootout, qualifying in 8th, then put in a fast lap to move up a spot in the overall starting order.
In today’s 250km Super2 feature race, it was a devastating end for the Repco Authorised Service Supercar co-driver Macauley Jones who had gone from 7th to comfortably leading the race. After multiple safety cars, the cars were going to have one final lap under green to race to the finish. This is where it all came unstuck for the young gun as he received a desperate nudge going into the fastest corner on the supercars calendar. This tap sent him into the sand trap and ended his race there and then; a mere two corners from the finish line! It was a devastating finish for the Albury team that had showed epic potential for back to back Super2 Bathurst wins. Jacobson later apologised to Macauley and the team for the hit.
Nick and Macauley are more than ready to tackle the mountain; starting from 7th position, the 1000km battle begins at 11:10am tomorrow.
“The shootout lap was what I expected – it was amazing to have the mountain to myself. I’m really happy with the lap; there were some spots I wanted to attack more than I did in qualifying, so I was out there on a mission. I came in and knew that I’d given it everything I’ve got.”
“This mornings practice session was good, finishing in 4th I’m happy with the pace of the car and Macauley has been impressively fast all day. It was such a shame to see his Super2 race end the way it did, but we’re ready to have another crack tomorrow and would love to get the Repco Authorised Service Supercar on the podium.”
“It’s a long day ahead tomorrow; anything can and generally does happen at this place!”
