The Supercars were on track today at ‘The Bend’ for the inaugural Tailem Bend SuperSprint event. The new South Australian circuit is the third longest that the Supercars visit – behind Bathurst and Albert Park and today, drivers were put to the test to get up to speed with the circuit as quickly as they could.

For Nick, the first session was short-lived when a front splitter mount broke, forcing him into the pits and seeing him miss valuable laps around the new circuit. However with team-mates Tim Slade and Tim Blanchard finishing 1st and 3rd respectively, Nick knew the team were overall off to a good start. In the second practice session Nick was able to shine, finishing 5th in the X Convenience Mobil Supercar.

Macauley Jones is the team’s wild-card here this weekend, making his second wild-card appearance for the year (appeared at Darwin in June) and gaining valuable time behind the wheel before the endurance season kicks off next month. Macauley was impressive in both sessions, finishing in 21st and 18th, ahead of some the sports big names.

“The Bend has a great mix of long and fast corners, plus the new surface provides a nice high grip, which has suited our cars in the past. However not knowing exactly what to expect, you don’t know if that will again work in our favour, but we’ll be giving it everything we’ve got.”

“The passing opportunities are really going to be best known once we get racing. There are sections where you can go under and over for a couple corners in a row, and you’ll be thinking about moves a few corners ahead. It will test the drivers racecraft, so it has the potential to mix up the order, again the guys that are on their game will continue to be.”

“I don’t think there is any circuit in Australia that we race at that is similar to The Bend. You try compare corners to other tracks when learning it and looking at how to approach it, but this track is going to hold its own. It’s a one of a kind circuit. I hope we put on an awesome show for everyone attending this weekend and that it’s a huge success for everyone that has been involved to get the track to this point. The best result would be to get one of the SA boys (either team-mate Sladey or myself!) on the podium to spray some champagne in their home state!”
