THE WORD FROM NICK
The rain clouds loomed but didn’t threaten the 200-kilometre race that was on the agenda for the Supercars here in Townsville today. Nick qualified just outside the top ten, with position eight and eleventh being separated by only hundredths of a second.
Nick got a great start to the 200km race, gaining two positions on the opening lap, to move up to 9th.
The only and only safety car was seen on lap 54 to clear debris from the track, then it was a race to the finish. With all the cars bunched up with the safety car, everyone was looking to tyres to see who had fresher Dunlops on to make a charge in the final 13 laps. Nick was passed late in the race by Will Davison, and crossed the line in 10th, claiming yet another top ten finish for the year. Tomorrow we have another qualifying session and 200km race, with the addition of the fan favourite, the top ten shootout. Stay tuned!
“I qualified the Dunlop Racing Commodore a bit further back than what we wanted to in 11th but we got a really good start to today’s race. On turn two Cam Waters nudged me and turned me sideways, but luckily not completely around, and somehow we still managed to make up a couple of spots on that opening lap.”
“After that we settled in and I battled with Will, Fabian and Cam during most the race. Its still unclear if Cam passed me under safety car as we were battling there towards the end. It was pretty close.”
“Overall the Dunlop Racing Commodore wasn’t too bad, we need a little bit more pace to be that touch more competitive tomorrow. We’re looking forward to having another crack in qualifying to get further up the starting grid.”
