THE WORD FROM NICK

Today’s qualifying session was washed out after heavy rains continued to batter down on the Pukekohe circuit this morning. The grid positions for todays’ race were determined by the combined practice session times from Friday, meaning Nick would start todays’ race from 18th. Nick got a great start to the race, moving up three spots on the opening lap. The car showed good pace, and on this track where it is difficult to pass, he made more moves where he could. With a shorter first pit stop, the team were using strategy to boost Nick through the order towards the end of the race. However, with multiple safety cars coming into play Nick was forced to queue in pit lane, and it dropped him down the order. He again made up some good ground, but it was far from the result the team were expecting today. The NZ crowds braved the weather and were up on their feet many times during the race cheering on the drivers, especially when one of the hometown heroes SVG, took out today’s race win. The Harley-Davidson Racing team are confident heading into the final 200kms of racing coming up tomorrow.

Nick

“The team did a really good job with the car today, the Harley-Davidson Commodore handled really well and it was a really pacey race car. We made up a few spots on the start, and managed to pass a couple of cars throughout the race, even though it can be quite hard to pass here.”

“We lost a bunch of spots in the middle stint when we had to double stack, which was disappointing but sometimes that’s just the way it goes. We had some good battle packs out there today which was good, fun racing which I really enjoyed. I saw the Mostert, Reynolds and Coulthard events unfold in front of me, and it was good to see Fabian walk away from his crash. It’ll be a lot of work for those guys overnight.”
