Nick: 12th – 1m19.6911s
Macauley: 19th – 1m19.9396s
Pole Position: Scott McLaughlin – 1m19.0721
Race Ten – 67 Laps/200kms
Winner: Shane Van Gisbergen
It was a mixed result in qualifying today. On his flying lap Percat had scored his personal best first and second sector times, but was caught out in the final sector, losing crucial time which would have put him near the top of the starting order. For Macauley he had a fantastic result and was the top of the wildcards, qualifying in 19th position. He was the last of the 29 drivers to qualify in the 1m19 bracket, meaning he was less than a second of pole sitter Scott McLaughlin.
The team changed the strategy for Nick early in the race to try get him out of traffic and use his pace to push forward, but the teams pitting later used their fresh tyres to claw back any position Nick had previously gained. Macauley found himself caught up in some lap one drama, but was able to press on and finish the race in 25th position. Again the wild card experience proving invaluable for the young guns, as this opportunity is really looking to bridge that gap between the Super2 and Supercars series. Macauley will join the BJR crew again in Darwin for the second wild card event for the year.
NICK “It was a tough weekend in terms of results, only because the team have done really well here in the past. Top ten yesterday was great for the team and whilst we weren’t far off again today, we really wanted more. I was behind team-mate Tim Slade for the latter part of the race and I was able to learn a few things off him by watching the behaviour of the BJR cars. It was good to see how it would react going into different corners and look at things from that way. We need to find a little more grip and a little more power going into the next round to try bridge that gap to the guys in front.”
