The first additional driver practice session is on the schedule for this weekend at Winton Motor Raceway. Brad Jones Racing are using this opportunity to test out some different driver pairings, and a new face ahead of the endurance season.
Macauley Jones will be on board Nick Percats’ car 8 which is set to unveil its Winton livery this Wednesday. Macauley has done the last two endurance season campaigns in the teams #21 car, with Dale Wood in 2015 and Tim Blanchard in 2016, finishing in a very respectable 10th position at Bathurst last year.
Dunlop Super2 Series driver Todd Hazelwood will get behind the wheel of Tim Blanchard’s Team CoolDrive Commodore. Todd has continued to impress in his 4th season of the series, currently sitting second in the championship, winning two races and finishing in the top three in all six races so far this season.
Team Owner Brad discussed the decision to test the new combinations further “We’re going to try Macauley in Nick’s car at Winton. There is a fair height difference between then but we think we’ve got Macauley fitted in as best as possible.”
“Todd Hazelwood is going to join the team for the weekend and drive the Team CoolDrive car with Tim Blanchard. For Todd, this is his first time behind the wheel of one of our cars and I’m looking forward to seeing how he performs.”
“Our plan is to give both Macauley and Todd some seat time in the different cars and we will assess the dynamics between everyone. We’ll confirm the pairings down the track, but this is our chance to give both guys a go and we’ll move forward from there.”
Super2 Series Todd Hazelwood added "I'm really looking forward to working with the team at BJR and getting behind the wheel of the Team CoolDrive Supercar for the first time Winton this Friday.
“There is a lot of information for myself to absorb during the session. For me it will be interesting to discover how the BJR chassis performs and what it is like driving on the softer compound rubber compared to what I am using in the Dunlop Super2 Series.”
“I really appreciate the opportunity both Brad Jones Racing and Tim Blanchard have provided."
A confirmed driver lineup announcement will be revealed in the coming weeks. The 30 minute additional drivers practice session gets underway this Friday at Winton at 10:50am.
