Race Three (120kms / 50 Laps)

Finished: DNF // Winner: Shane Van Gisbergen

Today, Tasmania provided one of the biggest crashes seen in Supercars history. Drivers were quick to battle in the wet conditions, with spray hindering vision for many of the drivers. So on lap two, a battle emerged between Fabian Coulthard and Rick Kelly, causing Garth Tander to spin onto the fast incoming traffic. 11 of the drivers in the 26 strong Supercar field were caught in this huge pileup, ending their race. Nick in his Biante 1:1 Commodore, was one of the drivers ending with a devastating DNF today. The car was returned to the pits with the team confident they’ll have him back on track tomorrow. For some of the others involved, it looks like they may not make it for tomorrow’s race. This is a huge impact for the BJR team, with all 3 of its Supercars involved in this accident.

Nick “I think we came out of that ok. It’s not ideal but we didn’t have a lot of front on damage. I got out and tried to assess the damage and was going to try drive the car back if I could. It looks reasonable in comparison to the others.”

“I don’t know what to say for the BJR crew today, in the Dunlop Super2 race 2 of the 3 cars were involved in huge damage and are out for the weekend, now all 3 of the Supercars are involved in this.”

“Hopefully Will Davison is ok, my thoughts go out to him as he looked like he suffered the worst in this accident and was in quite a bit of pain.”

“I was behind Garth and there was some contact in front of him, I went to go right in the gap, but there were people spinning everywhere, and there was no options left so I made contact with the wall and everyone just piled up.”
