It was clear early on in the day that the Team BOC VF Commodore wasn’t handling comfortably for either Bright or Jones. At the top of the Mountain in the high speed section the car was particularly nervous at the rear. This is emphatically not what drivers want on such an unforgiving track. Instead of pushing too hard and risking a trip into the wall, both drivers instead focused on developing the car’s setup with Team BOC engineers Andrew Edwards and Wally Storey. The reward was a quick car at the end of third practice – Bright finishing the session in fifth. There’s plenty more to come from the car, so the signs are encouraging for a strong qualifying tomorrow.
Andrew Jones (on his practice session)
“At the top of the mountain it was a bit evil for me. It’s hard to feel confidence in the car up there and on a Thursday you really don’t need to be pushing too hard and possibly making a mistake which is going to cause problems. There’s always tuning going on and we’ll keep working at it.”
“I hardly did any laps today. I’d just drive out go through a couple of corners and then straight back in for changes. The final lap there was probably the only time I’ve really had a go at it across the top of the mountain. I felt like with the rest of the day if I did that it was going to bite us. I feel like we made the right call working on setup through the day rather than chasing a time. There’s still more to come but it’s definitely heading in the right direction.”
