Overnight changes saw Jason Bright back on the pace for the Clipsal 500 today but a stunning recovery was blocked at the final hurdle for Team BOC.

After running a risky strategy, pitting at the start of the race, Bright emerged 11th after the first round of stops after qualifying 20th yesterday. His pace was equal to the leaders and a top five result looked in the bag.

Unfortunately, however, Bright clipped the tyre bundles on lap 59 whilst pushing to catch the front-runners. As a result the front-right shock broke, almost pitching the Team BOC Commodore into the infamous Turn Eight barrier.

The crew fixed the damage and Bright rejoined, three laps down, to finish 22nd.

Qualifying for tomorrow's 250km race starts at 11.05am

"I made a few mistakes and the team made a few mistakes and that cost us a result. That's what happens when you're pushing so hard from the back; we had to do it though, otherwise we were never going to get anywhere.

"I'm sure we will qualify better tomorrow and hopefully have a nice race up the front. I think we can sit in a reasonable position up there pretty comfortably.

"At the start we were matching the leaders times even though I was being conservative to save the tyres. After the second stop I knew the tyres were going to last the 40 laps because it had already lasted the 39. I think that demonstrates how quick the car is; most people were only trying to do a 25-lap stint and we were easily matching their times after 40 laps. That's a big difference."
