Jason Richards may be fighting cancer but the gutsy Kiwi proved he?s a fighter both on and off the track by winning today?s second Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series race in Adelaide.
In his first V8 Supercar race weekend since November, the Team BOC driver started 12th and worked his way through to take victory in a race where a range of young guns came to grief.
The three-time Bathurst 1000 runner-up could not be stopped, his last minute deal with Greg Murphy Racing ending in a victory that placed him fourth for the round overall.
?I still have a massive battle on my hands but this is a great win mentally,? said Richards.
?I?m not looking at doing the whole Fujitsu Series. I?m looking at doing maybe some more races but my 100 percent focus is my cancer. If I get back into a V8 in the main series or the Fujitsu Series then my focus will shift to the thing that I love and I can?t afford to do that because I need to stay focused.
?At this point I?ll do bits and pieces to stay around the race track during the year.?
Nick Percat won the round from Tim Blanchard and Scott McLaughlin but there?s no doubt that Richards is the story of the day.
