23RD APRIL: THE MOUNTAIN PLAYED TOUGH

BP SUPERCARS ALL STARS ESERIES

RACE EIGHT – BATHURST

TIME – 7:18pm

LAPS - 8

NICK FINISHED – Position 10th

TODD FINISHED – Position 11th

WINNER – Shane Van Gisbergen

RECAP –

The mountain was calling and seeing Supercars on track in April at Bathurst was a sight to see. Nick progressed through to the shootout, finishing 7th meaning this was his start position for the first race of the night while Todd qualified 16th after a difficult session.

The mountain played tough with Nick in the Dunlop Super Dealer Racing Commodore when he was turned around at the first corner of lap one, pushing him to the back of the field. Todd in the Plus fitness Racing Commodore stayed clear of the now traditional carnage, gaining two positions heading into lap two. For the remaining laps, Nick and Todd turned on the entertainment fighting for the top ten position. In the end Nick just got the position with Todd on his tail in p11.

RACE NINE – BATHURST

TIME – 7:48pm

LAPS - 8

NICK FINISHED – Position 20th

TODD FINISHED – Position 22nd

WINNER – Fabian Coulthard

RECAP –

The reverse grid was back, like we’ve seen in the previous Eseries rounds. With the solid p10 and p11 in the previous race, it meant the boys started race nine at the back of the pack – which is always a worry.

Both drivers had strong starts, gaining ten positions as they entered lap two, putting them straight to pointy end of the grid. Nick then took the early pit option on lap 4 while teammate Todd took a different strategy and held off taking his compulsory pit stop until lap 6.

Unfortunately in the last couple of laps Nick found the fence (thankfully virtually) and Todd was t-boned out of nowhere causing severe (again, thankfully virtual) damage. Nick crossing the line in p20 and Todd in the Plus fitness Racing Commodore closely behind in p22.

RACE TEN – BATHURST

TIME – 8:20pm

LAPS - 14

NICK FINISHED – Position 24th

TODD FINISHED – Position 11th

WINNER – Brodie Kostecki

RECAP –

The final race at the mountain was the longest of the night with a compulsory two pit stops thrown in. Both boys started where they finished race nine and the back of the grid is never ideal! Both drivers got away well and climbed up to 9th and 10th.

It was clearly a night of battles between teammates with some intense, but clean, racing going on. A strong finish for Todd with a second p11 for the night. Nick not so lucky coming into contact with Mark Winterbottom and finishing p24.

A fantastic night of racing and the mountain sure didn’t disappoint!

THE WORD FROM NICK

“An up and down night but some awesome battles going on so that was fun. The shootout was cool to be a part of and the top ten finish too. Yeah, the other two races were, what can I say, not so great. Unfortunately, I decided to fence myself in race two then had a “lara bingle” with Frosty which was highly entertaining. It was a good night of racing and I had some great banter with Todd my teammate, so I hope everyone at home enjoyed it too. Bathurst is always a good one.”

THE WORD FROM TODD

“Racing in the Plus Fitness rocket around Bathurst was fun. I felt much more confident as I had some new equipment to play with which certainly helped and having prior experience with a track I know helped with preparation. I had the most battles with my teammate than anyone else and we kept it clean so that was a lot of fun with some solid banter on the live commentary too. A bit of fun for the night for the fans which is great. It was a great day in the office, so I’ll fine tune what I’ve been working on and get ready for the next one.”
