QUALIFYING RECAP: After finishing inside the top 10 in practice 3 on Friday, Nick and the X-Convenience Mobil Racing Commodore could sit out the first part of qualifying. Out we went for the second part and in the dying seconds, Nick’s final flying lap was looking the goods, with the fastest second sector of any driver. Unfortunately, a small error lost time – just enough to miss out on the top 10 shootout.
RACE 2 / 78 LAPS
TIME: 15:20
CONDITIONS: Sunny, warm
FINISHED: 7th
WINNER: Scott McLaughlin
RACE RECAP: From 13th Nick narrowly avoided a first lap multi-car collision before proving the X-Convenience Mobil Commodore had some serious pace, swiftly locking in a top 10 spot and holding it through the race. While not being entirely happy with the car’s handling, Nick was still fast throughout the 78 laps, and the team worked well to manage the car through a busy race that included multiple safety cars. By the end the BJR Commodore registered the first top 10 of the year in 7th position. It was a great building block for the rest of the season.
THE WORD FROM NICK
‘I’m pretty happy with my race today. I think I got all I could out of the car. There was a handling issue and it was hard work but it was a decent result and hopefully the first of many top 10s. Can’t wait to see how we go at the AGP’
