NICK - Disappointment for the R&J Batteries team after an engine electrical failure early in qualifying dropped Nick out of contention for the top ten shootout and resulted in car #8 starting the race from the back of the grid.

TODD - Some setup issues for the #14 Dunlop Super Dealer Racing Supercar with Todd finding the car somewhat difficult under braking and finishing up in p16 - just missing out on the Top Ten Shootout.

MACAULEY - Macca and the #96 Coca-Cola Racing squad struggled to get the tyres working on the long Mt Panorama circuit.



NICK: 18th

TODD: 10th

MACCA: 21st

NICK - Nick and the R&J Batteries Supercar looked fast at the start, making up 5 positions in the early phase of the race. Unfortunately there was another electrical issue with car #8 and Nick was into the pits soon after for repairs and effectively out of the running - crossing the line in p18. It was a disappointing end to the race and the team will be working hard to get the R&J Batteries Supercar right back up there on Sunday.

TODD - A very solid first hitout for Todd with the Dunlop Super Dealer Racing Commodore showing strong pace and after a relatively trouble-free run, Todd gained 6 positions from 16th on the grid to grab p10 at the finish. It was a credit to the team and a great drive from Todd, setting things up nicely for race 2 on Sunday.

MACAULEY - A new look and number for Macauley in the #96 Coca-Cola Racing Supercar and Macca was having a good run before an engine failure brought the red rocket into the pits and out of the race on lap 25. The team will be hoping for a more reliable run tomorrow.



“It was definitely a disappointing day with engine electrical issues this morning and this continued into the first race with the battery not charging. Not how I wanted to kick off my season but we’ll move on and I’ll focus on fighting tomorrow to get some better points for the team. The team were able to fix the problem early on so I got to the end of the race. On to tomorrow and hopefully I can finish on a good note as we deserve to be up around the P5 mark for sure.”


"We were really happy to bank some points. To walk away with a good result is great, especially after power steering problems we had in practice on Friday. It was a pretty crazy race, it was like the last 30 lap stint at the Bathurst 1000. We’ll work hard tonight to get the car feeling a bit better, the first one's out of the way, we have a clean car, got some good points so we've got some positives to come from that. We need to work on our race pace but we’ve already got some ideas just in the brief chat we’ve had post race. The track should get better tomorrow which will suit our car so hopefully I can qualify better and continue with more points for the first round of the year.”


"It's disappointing, we were having a pretty good race but the car started smoking and then lost power. We're not 100% sure what the issue is but we'll have a close look at the engine. Thanks to Coca-Cola Racing for their hard work, we'll get it back out for tomorrow."
