RECAP
Saturday:
A new challenge for Macca and Team CoolDrive, with the use of the shorter 3.41km ‘west’ circuit this weekend. Five sets of soft tyres available again but with the shorter circuit and valuable intel from last weekend, the blistering rear tyre issue wasn’t expected to rear its head. It was a good start to the weekend too when Macca brought the CoolDrive Supercar home in p17 in race 28, setting things up nicely for Sunday.
Sunday:
From 20th on the grid in race 29, Macca made a good start but an off at the end of lap one sent the CoolDrive Commodore to the back of the field. Macca was in no mood to sit back, however, and rapidly climbed through the field, sitting 14th by lap 7. The team decided to run long - pitting from p3 with just 12 laps remaining. Then, with ten laps to go two cars dropped out - bringing out the safety car to remove the cars from the track. At the resumption of the race, car #3 was involved in another exciting battle in a frenetic run to the flag, Macca using those fresh tyres to good effect and crossing the line in p14.
A great qualifying for the final race of the weekend saw Macca start from p10. Some typical Supercars biff and barge in the early laps as Macca didn’t hold back fighting for position. This time car #3 was into the pits relatively early on lap 9 and back out into the race in p19. Driving a consistent long final stint, Macca brought the CoolDrive Supercar home in p18.
THE WORD FROM MACCA
“A little bit of a mixed bag today. We had a solid race one coming away with 14th so I was happy with that result. We decided to run the car the same for the second one but unfortunately I struggled with the set-up a little. And then getting shunted off to the side from Shane didn’t help the overall balance.
A lot of positives to take away, my second quali session was a good step forward with a P10 and I feel that I’m moving forward with that. A few little niggles to work on before Bathurst but we’re sitting in a good position before the big race. I’ll work with Tim in the coming weeks and look forward to getting to Bathurst for the last one.”
