RECAP

Todd in the TRG Transport supercar was one of the hardest hit by the tyre degradation problems yesterday - mainly affecting the rears - so the team spent yesterday evening tweaking the Commodore to alleviate the problems for the two Sunday races. In glorious sunshine Todd secured 12th on the grid for race 26 and got a good start, holding position on the first lap and driving carefully to preserve those tyres.

Compared to yesterday Todd managed to maintain the tyres well, coming in for fresh rubber on lap 14. Out in midfield, it was critical now to keep the rears in good condition for the run to the finish, Todd carefully managing the deg and grabbing a few spots to boot in the last few laps, the TRG Transport Commodore coming home in p12.

RACE 27 / 24 LAPS

TIME: 14:25

CONDITIONS: Sunny, dry

FINISHED: 10th

WINNER: Scott McLaughlin

RECAP

With lessons learned from race 26, the TRG Transport Supercar was further tweaked to save those rear tyres from annihilation! It was a chaotic start to the race, with a big second lap crash involving Winterbottom and Courtney almost claiming Todd but with skill and some good luck, he narrowly avoided the clash and kept it clean in the first phase of the race - car #14 treating its rear tyres better than it did in race 25 and 26.

In fact the TRG Transport Commodore was one of the last cars to pit on lap 18, Todd grabbing two rear tyres and rejoining in p11. Keeping things clean, Todd and the TRG Transport Commodore crossed the line in p10, a solid end to the weekend.

THE WORD FROM TODD

“It was a little bit frustrating today. It’s annoying because I know the car is fast and the team did a great job tuning her up overnight, but our issue all day was tyre degradation. I struggled a lot in the first race and my rears were gone.

The second race was better for me so I was able to stay out as long as I could before pitting and that really helped our race this afternoon. It was a tough one but I still managed to come with 10th which is my best finish at The Bend so far so that’s one positive to take away from the weekend. We’ll all sit down as a team and look at what we can do differently to hopefully help the tyre life.

A big thank you to TRG Transport for getting behind me and all the SA support. Not the best outcome but fingers crossed next weekend I can have a better run and get the #14 up closer to the front”.
