RECAP

Saturday: Day one was dominated by tyre wear. With just five sets of soft rubber available across the weekend it was critical to get the best from each set but the full 4.95km International circuit had other ideas and set about destroying the tyres! The aggressive camber to maximise cornering on the circuit certainly didn’t help and Macca suffered from tyre blistering like so many in the pitlane. Unfortunately to add to the tyre drama, the Team CoolDrive Supercar suffered from a steering problem throughout the day. Qualifying 22nd and finishing 20th, there was plenty of data to pore over to get the best out of the tyres for Sunday!

Sunday: On day two the Team CoolDrive Supercar was fast straight out of the box, Macca qualifying in p13 for Race 26 and p10 for Race 27 - a great job from both team and driver. In Race 26 Macca focused on preserving the tyres and balancing speed with the inevitable degradation. In on lap 13, the Team CoolDrive Commodore got two fresh rear tyres - the rears taking the bulk of the punishment on the long 4.95km International circuit. Macca was back out in p19 and was well set for the run to the finish. In the last few laps car #3’s tyres started to blister, something the whole field was battling with, and Macca nursed it home, crossing the line in p18.

In race 27, Macca started well from p10, moving up to p8 at the end of lap one. Macca kept it clean in the first phase of the race before pitting on lap 13 for rear tyres. He managed the critical tyre degradation well as the laps wound down, keeping pace with the top 10 and battling hard with Jacobson and Holdsworth. The 12th place finish was a solid end to an action- packed weekend at The Bend.

THE WORD FROM MACCA

“We had a better day today and I feel like we made some great progress from yesterday. I clocked my best quali finish this morning with P10 so that’s a positive step forward.

I had a fast car and the balance was pretty good, unfortunately the tyre degradation was just so bad on track. We just didn’t have the rear tyre life needed here, especially in the first race. It caused the rear of the car to be very unstable.

The second race was a lot better as we dialled everything back a notch to try and help the tyres and it definitely paid off. I had a great stop thanks to the team and was really happy to come away with 12th which is my result so far here at The Bend. A great way to finish the weekend and I feel like we’ve made some steps forward. We’ll work on our set-up to hopefully help the tyre deg more and give it another crack next weekend with hopefully some more solid results like today”.
