RECAP

Another Supercars double-header and it was a big change from last time out as we moved from tropical Far North Queensland all the way to the outskirts of Adelaide at a wet and soggy (at least initially) Tailem Bend. A very different track to Townsville too, the Supercars taking on the full 4.95km International Circuit. Just the five sets of soft tyres to use across the weekend meant tyre management would again play a crucial role.

After reaching the top 15 shootout in drying conditions things were looking good for Nick as he pushed for a top 10 spot for the first race of the weekend. It wasn’t to be, however, after a small mistake on the final corner cost a chunk of time and resulted in a p15 starting position.

The R&J Batteries Supercar jumped one position to 14th on lap one and Nick then settled into a clean, fast, rhythm. It wasn’t long before everyone in pitlane discovered that tyre degradation was turning out to be a major issue on the fast flowing circuit. As others pitted Nick climbed up the leaderboard, before eventually pitting on lap 13 from p5 and out again in p13. From there it was a case of managing the significant tyre wear and getting the R&J Batteries Commodore to the finish in one piece - Nick crossing the line in p11.

THE WORD FROM NICK

“It was a bit up and down today and unfortunately we didn’t bring it all together. I was on pace for a p2 finish in the shootout before I lost it on the final turn so I stuffed up that one. The car is fast and I was happy with how it feels but starting mid pack is never easy especially with the huge tyre deg at this track. Not the best day but I know it's all there so we just need to bring it all together tomorrow.”
