RECAP

From p7, Todd and the Black Duck Commodore survived the traditional first lap ruckus and gained a spot to run in a comfortable p6 in the early part of the race. Todd in on lap 17 for two tyres and straight back out in the middle of a battle with Whincup and McLaughlin. It was looking good for a top 10 finish until it was announced that car #14 received a 15 second penalty for a pitlane infringement. A disappointing end to the race but at least the car came home in one piece and ready for a big race 24.

RACE 24 / 39 Laps

TIME: 14:40

CONDITIONS: Warm, sunny, windy

FINISHED: 6th

WINNER: Shane van Gisbergen

RECAP

It was a day of firsts in qualifying – a first pole for BJR’s Nick Percat in race 23 and then Todd followed that up with HIS first pole for race 24! Two BJR cars, two poles! Nick also backed Todd up with a front row lockout, the first since 2013 at Philip Island. Great start from Todd, leading teammate Percat on the first lap and holding the position comfortably. In fact, car #14 slowly started to pull away from the pack as the race progressed. In on lap 18 for four tyres, the Black Duck Commodore was out of the pits behind McLaughlin – effectively p2 in the race after all the stops and with a decent tyre advantage over the DJR Mustang, things were looking good! It all changed on lap 25 though when De Pasquale hit the wall heavily, triggering the safety car. Back racing with just 9 laps to go and it was on! Car #14 was monstering McLaughlin from the get go but Whincup nabbed Todd’s spot, followed by van Gisbergen, putting the Team Black Duck Commodore down to p4 before Mostert also slipped through and Pye on the last lap. Sixth spot then at the flag, a solid result and good haul of points for Todd and Team Black Duck.

THE WORD FROM TODD

“We tried to tick all the boxes in the last race but I got a bit of pickup on the tyres behind the safety car which affected the car a little bit. I still thought I might be able to hang on behind Scott (McLaughlin) but it got away from us a little at the end. When I was leading, I thought ‘I need to lead more races, it’s easy’, so I hope to do that more in the future!”
