RECAP

It’s part two of our Townsville double-header. Hotter conditions and slightly less windy this weekend – a tough ask physically for the drivers in FNQ. Just like last weekend, managing rubber was going to be critical with just five sets of soft tyres on offer. Car #3 finished in p19 in race 22 on Saturday. A great run on Sunday morning in qualifying, the CoolDrive Commodore slotting in to 12th on the grid, a good reward for some hard work from Macca and the CoolDrive crew.

A clean start to race 23 and a late pit strategy, Macca coming in from p2 on lap 22, one of the last cars to pit, and heading out with three fresh tyres. The second half of the race featured some terrific battles with Jacobson, Davison, Smith and more. It went down to the wire too, Macca side by side with Davison as they crossed the line, car #3 finishing in 18th.

In the final race of the weekend the CoolDrive Commodore started from a solid p16 and moved up a spot early in the race. Macca and the team chose to pit early in the race on lap 15, rejoining in p19 with three fresh tyres. Drama on lap 25 when De Pasquale hit the wall heavily, triggering the safety car and leading to a 9 lap dash to the flag, Macca crossing the line in 19th.

THE WORD FROM MACCA

“We came off with a decent start. We didn’t have much tyres left by the last race so it was a bit of a roulette there at the start with what we had. I struggled a little bit with the balance and had a lot of understeer in the car so I just tried to manage that, I mean there was a lot going on during the race with people using used tyres and what not. We just lacked a little bit of speed but I had some great battles across the weekend. We just need to work on some speed.

A week off now to get it all together before we head to SA”
