RECAP

It was a difficult first day for Team CoolDrive to say the least, with Macca caught up in a first lap melee at turn two. Significant damage to car #3 and Macca out of action straight away and the team in for a long evening of repairs. It was another great job by Team CoolDrive to get the car back up and running for Sunday and with only 5 sets of tyres to use across the weekend, the accident on Saturday was actually a help for Sunday, at least when it came to tyres. Thankfully the car was immediately on the pace and Macca grabbed a fantastic 12th in qualifying for race 20 and backed it up with a p16 in for race 21.

A clean start in the first race with Macca sitting in the top half of the field before his stop at half distance for tyres. A relatively quiet run home to the flag with the Team CoolDrive Commodore crossing the finishing line inside the top 20 in p18.

From 16th on the grid in the final race of the weekend Macca was unfortunately bundled to the back of the field before a thrilling three way fight with teammate Jack Smith and Chris Pither. Car #3 pitted late on lap 22 and headed back out in p20. In the latter stages Macca found himself in a great four-way battle with Davison, Coulthard and Goddard before crossing the line in 21st.

THE WORD FROM MACCA

“Had a better day today and scored my best ever Townsville quali result of P12 so I’m pretty pumped with that. The car felt a lot more balanced and competitive so the team did a great job to get it ready for today after yesterdays damage. A big thank you to all our crew, they had a late night on track and worked hard to make sure we were ready.

The races this afternoon were a little tough. I lost some time on the first couple of laps so that put me on the back end a little and I struggled to get that time back. I had a smooth pit and then tried to maximise my last stint as best I could.

We’re back here next weekend so I’ll go through with Jules where I lost most of my time and how we can maximise this and improve for next weekends round.”
