RECAP

Two races and a limited number of soft tyres, it was game on at Hidden Valley! From seventh on the grid Nick held station in the early laps of race 17. While others pitted as early as lap six, #8 played the long game, keeping it clean, tidy and fast. Nick was up to second by lap 17 and held the position until lap 20 when the R&J Batteries Commodore came in for two tyres on the right hand side of the car, rejoining in 11th behind Courtney. Towards the end of the race Nick was involved in a fierce battle with Chaz Mostert for seventh. Sadly it ended badly for #8 after Mostert punted Nick off the road at turn one. It resulted in a 15 second penalty for Chaz and cost the R&J Batteries Commodore six spots – Nick crossing the line in a frustrating p13.

RACE 18 / 38 Laps

TIME: 14:25

CONDITIONS: Hot, Sunny

FINISHED: 2nd

WINNER: Scott McLaughlin

RECAP

Starting from fourth, Nick’s best ever Darwin grid slot, it was a bullet start with the R&J Batteries Commodore straight up in to second. A change in strategy with Nick in on lap eight and rejoining in p17. From there #8 climbed steadily up the field, sitting in p5 with 10 laps to go. The battle was on with Pye, van Gisbergen and Mostert nipping at Nick’s heels for a podium spot! As the race wore on though, Percat proved well up to the task, driving beautifully and maintaining just enough of a gap to finish strongly in a fantastic p2 behind McLaughlin. It was another great race from Nick and the team, proving once again that car #8 is a podium threat for the rest of the season.

THE WORD FROM NICK

“Great to be there on the podium with the R&J Batteries Commodore! Could probably have snagged more but we had a couple of run-ins over the past two weeks. Mega job from AE (engineer Andrew Edwards) and the team to tune it up overnight with a slightly different philosophy and we gained a couple of tenths so we could qualify and race at the front. Credit to everyone at BJR! Myself and AE have a tendency to go long before pitting but we rolled the dice today in the last race and Scott (Pye) helped us out by keeping SVG behind on fresher tyres so it worked out perfect.

Great finish to the weekend, my best result up here!”
