RECAP

Great weather and enthusiastic fans – it was sensational to be back racing at the Top End for the BetEasy Darwin Triple Crown!

Tyre management would again play a major role with teams allocated a mix of hard and soft tyres across the weekend. Todd had a great run in the Brut Military Grade Commodore on used tyres in the top 15 shootout, finishing in a solid p11 – a good spot for a real crack at the podium.

It wasn’t to be however, after our race was ruined on lap one when Shane van Gisbergen nudged Nick Percat in the sister R&J Batteries Commodore off the road and sending it straight into the side of Todd’s car! Disaster!

Sadly Nick’s car was too badly damaged to continue but the wounded Brut Military Commodore struggled on to grab some valuable points after some hasty repairs in the pits.

A disappointing end to the day but Todd and the team will be ready to mount a challenge for the podium tomorrow in races 14 and 15.

THE WORD FROM TODD

“Up and down day! We had a really fast car, particularly in qualifying and it felt like we made some really good progress over the day and proving that what we achieved at Sydney was no fluke.

Nick and I went for alternative strategies at the start of the race to ensure we had a good result either way. Unfortunately we both got caught up in someone else’s incident on lap one and got turned around with a significant amount of rear damage.

I started on softs so was feeling strong, a huge shame as we had a lot of potential. Bought it home in P18 which is a damn good effort for the team after what happened and to come away with some points is a positive.

We deserved better so we’ll come back fighting tomorrow.”
