RECAP
After a week’s delay it was finally time to have a crack at the BetEasy Darwin Triple Crown and we couldn’t be more excited! Tyres would again be the key to a successful weekend, with a mix of hards and softs available across the three races.
On used tyres Nick slotted the R&J Batteries Commodore into p12 in the top 15 shootout. Fast off the line, it was looking good until midway through lap one when Shane van Gisbergen nudged Nick off track and then hard into teammate Todd Hazelwood’s Brut Military Grade Commodore.
Sadly the damage was too great and the R&J Batteries Commodore had to be retired. A massive shame for the team but with fresh tyres and a fast car, Nick is well placed for some strong results in race 14 and 15 tomorrow.
THE WORD FROM NICK
“That was a real shame what happened out there today with Shane (van Gisbergen). Obviously Todd got caught up with that too so it was a disaster. Tomorrow I have more tyres up my sleeve now, unintentionally, but hopefully that sets us up well. It’s all pretty chaotic on lap one but it would’ve been nice if Shane just lifted off the throttle and didn’t cause a car accident. Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow.”
